Starting in the 10s, under the Hoover Administration, the United States practiced an isolationist policy, a national policy of abstaining from political or economic entanglements with other countries. After Hoover left office, the presidents after him did not keep going along with this policy. Instead, they started to dive into political and economic entanglements with other countries. Presidents were very hesitant about doing so. For example, Franklin Delano Roosevelt was very hesitant about joining World War II until it affected them directly. After that war, the United States was ready to get involved in international affairs because during the war, so many people's lives were taken because of the hesitation the United States went through in deciding whether or not to join the war. Many countries such as Cuba and the Soviet Union hated that the United States was becoming involved internationally and tried to stop them. The United States did take a break from international affairs because they felt that innocent lives were being taken for a reason that did not affect them directly. Starting with the 180s, under the Reagan Administration, one could not keep the United States out of other countries' entanglements. During the 180s, the United States did not practice the isolationist policy because the world looked at the United States as the worldwide police.

One event in which the United States was seen as the worldwide police was in 18, when Israeli forces invaded Lebanon. The Reagan Administration attempted to reduce the level of fighting in Lebanon in the early 180s. In June 18, Israel had invaded Lebanon to attack military bases of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). The PLO is the political representative of Palestinian Arabs, many of whom fled from Israeli-controlled territory during the Arab-Israeli war of 148 and became refugees in Lebanon. PLO forces in Lebanon had been attacking settlements in Israel. In August 18, the United States helped arrange for the withdrawal of PLO units from Lebanon. It later sent several United States Marine Corps units to join an international peacekeeping force in Lebanon.

Another event in which the United States was seen as the worldwide police was in 18, when Reagan ordered the invasion of the Caribbean Island of Grenada after Grenadian rebels over threw the island's government. Soldiers from six other Caribbean nations helped defeat the rebels. Reagan said the invasion was needed to protect the innocent lives of Americans who were in Grenada, including almost six hundred students at Saint George's University School of Medicine. Reagan also said Cuba planned to use Grenada as a military base which he could not let happen.

Cheap Custom Essays on International Involvement: 1980's During 184, the United States took part in yet another event that made them be seen as the worldwide police. This event involved rebellions in Nicaragua and El Salvador. The rebellions in Nicaragua and El Salvador became another major concern of the Reagan Administration during 184. Cuba and the Soviet Union were giving war materials to the government of Nicaragua and the rebels in El Salvador to build up their alliances. The United States, in turn, sent advisers and military equipment to the government of Nicaragua and the rebels in El Salvador to build up its allies. The United States did this to make sure that military forces around the world were on the same level.

The United States involvement in international affairs during the 180s show that they no longer practice an isolationist policy. From trying to keep peace in Lebanon to keeping military forces on the same level, the United States was policing the world. Till this day, the United States is still doing its job as the worldwide police, especially in the Middle East. From making sure nuclear weapons are not used to keeping the peace in Iraq, the United States still keeps its non-isolationist policy.

Order your Consumerism paper at affordable prices! Bruce Dawe uses his poetry as a tool to criticise the consumer driven America and societies with consumer values. He puts forward different ideas about consumerism through use of techniques such as metaphor, parody and colloquial language. This can be seen in particular poems such "Enter without so much as knocking" and "Americanized".

The poem "Enter without so much as knocking" explores the negative issues of consumerism through the example of one mans life. The poem has a cycle structure, starting with "Blink, blink. HOSTPIAL" to symbolise his birth and ending on "Blink, blink CEMETERY" to symbolise his death. This structure helps to show how he was corrupted over time.

The idea that the young are too naïve and also ‘lucky' that they have not been exposed to or corrupted by consumerism is presented in the first stanza of childhood. It is achieved through the use of colloquial language, "Hello, hello hello, all you lucky people" blares from the TV as the baby listens. The statement "lucky people" is ironic as Dawe uses satire to suggest that the child really was lucky because of his young age consumerism had not affected him.

The idea that consumerism rules our life is also presented. This is shown through use of imperative voice parodying common street signs such as "NO PARKING" then exaggerating them to "NO BREATHING EXCEPT BY ORDER" in a string of commands ordered in short, sharp sentences. Dawe is alluding to the fact that there is a lack of freedom because of consumerism and the rules that it has placed on society.

Buy cheap Consumerism term paper

Furthermore, the poem "Americanized" depicts America as a driver of consumerism and that it manipulates other countries to adopt American culture and values. It uses a continuing metaphor of an over protective mother and a powerless son to convey the idea that America is a dominating force in the world. This is shown through the child being referred to as "small" which suggests that he is vulnerable and powerless to the mother, who controls him in various ways from not letting him out to guiding him to the bathroom.

Another idea presented coinciding with the mother and son metaphor is the metaphor that the world is an invalid and America, the mother needs to "help it". This is shown in the quote "she's off to nurse an invalid called the world". This is a notion of American supremacy and the idea that America is forcing its' culture onto other countries.

Bruce Dawe has effectively used different techniques in his poetry to address issues of consumerism.

What is a Database?

(Report by Kaleb Abdi)

Introduction

Data, to any business, is an asset. How you input, retrieve and use that data can be simply a time consuming expense or make all the difference to the efficiency and cost saving of your business. On this report I consider the fundamental facts of databases and tools used to function the data inside them.

Custom Essays on database

A database is a collection of processed information related to a particular subject or purpose. Let us consider an enterprise, such as Travel agents, that has a large amount of data kept for long periods of time in a computer. This data might include information about passengers, locations, flights, airlines, and personnel, for example. Typical relationships that might be represented include bookings (Which passengers have seats on which flights?) location (which passengers to which location?), and airlines (which airline to which location?). These types of data stored more or less permanently in a computer is called a database. (Ullman, 18).

You can think of a database as an electronic filling system. The data storage for database is accomplished by the use of one or more files. Traditional databases are organised by fields, records and files. A field is a single piece of information, such as, a person's name or a location of university. A collection of related or similar fields is called a record. An example of a record would contain a person's name, address, date of birth etc. And a file is a compete set of related records. For example, a telephone book is analogous to a file. It contains a list of records, each of which consists of fields name, address and telephone number. (Wiederhold, 177).

Fig.1. A diagram showing file, records and fields.

Database management system (DBMS)

Database management systems are programs that enable you to manage data on your computer. A computerised database management helps a user to store, change, find and present information from the database. An example of a database management system is Microsoft Access.

An Access database has several main components, Forms for data input, tables to store your data, queries to manipulate your data and reports to present the information to you. All can be specifically tailored to have the look feel and functionality you want. Although the term "Database" typically refers to a collection of related data tables, an Access database includes more than just data tables. (The Berkeley _Research, 00).

An access database includes -

· Tables for storing data

· Queries for organising data

· Forms for interaction with data

· Reports for printing results

Tables

After information is gathered through questionnaires, interviews or other methods of gathering information they will be entered in to tables as data (processed information).

Queries

A particular database may contain an awful lot of data in the system, with such systems to find a certain information manually may be found difficult. Queries are used in a database to find the information required from the system. Query is a function, which uses unique identifiers for a data to display the information requested. For example in the government database for job seekers, a query could be used to find a particular person's record by using his/her National Insurance number.

Forms

A database allows a user to add and amend information in the system. For this purpose a database also contains forms to interact with data on the screen. A form can be created using different toolbox's- such as label, textbox, combo box, list boxes and so on.

Reports

The information from a database can be presented in a variety of formats. Most includes a report writer program that enables you to output data in the form of a report. Many also include a graphics component that enables you to output information in the form of graphs and charts.

incorrect. It is possible that diseases that are untreated would be dangerous, but the first part of

occasionally interrupted but generally----progress through prehistory.

(A) partially.. noticeable

(B) superficially.. necessary

(C) unwittingly.. documented

(D) rarely.. continual

(E) needlessly.. incessant

Explanation

The first missing word describes how ancient tools were preserved. The phrase enough have

survived indicates that not all survived, and the word Although indicates that the tools were

preserved in a way that would not lead you to expect enough to survive. The second missing word

describes a progress through prehistory. The word but suggests that the word that fills the

second blank must contrast with the idea of occasional interruption.

D is the correct answer. It is logical to say that enough tools have survived in spite of their being

rarely preserved. A continual progress contrasts with one that is occasionally interrupted.

In A Raisin in the Sun most of the main characters have a dream that they each try to work towards. Walter's dream was to open a liquor store with the insurance money that his mother got from her husband's death. Beneatha's dream was to become a doctor, and she was secretly hoping for some of the money to help pay her way through. Mamma wanted to use this money to buy a house for the family. Each of these dreams revolved around the insurance check that was a total of ten thousand dollars. However, out of these three different dreams, only one became a reality.

Beneatha was the "intellectual" of the family. She considered herself to be above the rest of her family and was always seeking her heritage "Well, do me a favor and don't ask him a whole lot of ignorant questions about Africans. I mean, do they wear clothes and all that" (57). Beneatha was a major nonconformist and always preached against assimilation. However, she became so concerned to being a nonconformist that she conformed her life around being against anything that was not of Africa or her heritage "Enough of this assimilationist junk!" (76). Beneatha's dream was to become a doctor and then return back to Africa and practice her medicine there. Beneatha was being hopeful towards the fact that Mamma would give her some of the check to help pay for her medical school. Unfortunately, this aid was lost to Walter in his attempt at his dream of being rich. While it is not known for sure if Beneatha becomes a doctor, the reader or audience is aware that it will be difficult.

Walter was the most aggressive character in the play. All he could think about was getting that money so that he could fulfill his dream of becoming a rich black man. Walter's scheme was to go in with two other guys to start a liquor store so that he could begin to make a decent living. Walter began to stress out over this dream and was always yelling at his wife and badgering his mom for the money. He felt that no one understood him, and, while this was true, his dream turned into a sham "You just don't understand, Mamma, and you just don't understand" (74). Willy took Walter's and Bobo's money and ran off with it. This crushed Walter's dream and severely hampered Beneatha's dream.

Cheap Custom Essays on The Theme of Dreams in A Raisin in the Sun Mamma's dream was the only one that ever became a reality in the span of the story. Mamma had always wanted a house of her own and a small garden so that she could plant things such as flowers and maybe some vegetables "Well, I always wanted me a garden like I used to see sometimes at the back of the houses down home" (5). When the check arrived she went out and bought a home for the family so they could move out of the "rat-trap" that they were in. This infuriated Walter who was hoping for the check so that he could enter into his "business" proposition with Willy and Bobo. However, Mr. Linder came to their apartment and tried to persuade them to sell their newly acquired home. Walter refused his offer, not once, but twice. Mr. Linder was the community chairman and what the community of Clyborne Park felt was that they do not want Negroes living in their neighborhood. At the end of the play the family was heading towards their new home. How this venture turned out is left up in the air. Trouble is hinted at when Linder says "I sure hope you people know what you're getting into" (14).

This story can be considered a cliffhanger because one dream is shattered, and the other two have a very good chance of failure. Walter was crushed at being taken by Willy. Beneatha has zero financial backing for medical school. Mamma's dream of a home is still under the possibility of being destroyed under the wrath of their hateful neighbors. The reader or audience can only hope for the best for this unfortunate family of big dreams.

Order your The Salem Witch Trials paper at affordable prices with cheap essay writing service! Why the hell is everyone still so obsessed with the Salem witch trials? Give it a rest already. They began in the late 18th century, and now we are in the 1st, if I am not mistaken. These people keep on bitching about how restrictive Puritan society was and how they persecuted everyone left and right.

Actually, their strict moral codes are highly exaggerated. You cant really blame them. I mean, here they are on a new continent, trying to survive. They tried to be strict to create some sort of social order, and there was no room for anyones bullshit at the time.

So then these two idiot girls decided to make up a bunch of stories about witches and stuff. Everyone believed them and decided to put a bunch of women that no one liked on trial. And thats how the whole Salem thing begins. I bet those two girls werent even expecting the whole village to believe their bullshit, but I guess they were dumb enough to go along with it. Well, someone always has to pay the price of stupidity.

I keep hearing this bitching about how hundreds of innocent women were persecuted and this and that. Ok, so they spent some time in jail. But only 0 were actually killed, ok? 0. Not hundreds. 0. And dont bother arguing over this because we both know that youre not a source as legitimate as my American History textbook.

Cheap University Papers on The Salem Witch Trials

So quit whining about these unfair persecutions already. Its getting old. Shit like this happens in history all the time, there was nothing special about the Salem case. It doesnt need scores of books, it doesnt deserve all the fucking 5th grade research projects done on it. We need to stop believing the lie that just because a lot of people were persecuted, they all died. I wish people would actually know what they are talking about before launching into their whole bitch-fest campaign.

Marriage Today

Marriage is less valued today than ever before.

Marriage and the way we view it today, differs greatly from the past. We no longer have to be married to be a family. Our views and opinions on marriage and its meaning have changed considerably. Marriage isn't necessarily less valued, it's just viewed differently.

The fact that the divorce rate has doubled in the last twenty years could lead us to believe that marriage isn't important to us anymore. Instead of persevering and working at married life, people are more frequently choosing to end their relationships. However, these divorced couples seem to be merely opting out of poor quality relationships to look for something better. In the past divorce was frowned upon, we were expected to carry on regardless of whether we were happy or not. Until 14, there was no financial help available for divorce cases. Making the process easier and cheaper has given people the opportunity to leave ‘empty shell' marriages behind. For example in 11, 75% of women and 80% of men divorced before the age of 5 were remarried within 10 years. These figures show that we haven't dismissed the idea of marriage. Repeated remarriage doesn't mean we take marriage lightly, just that society has changed and we're not expected to put up with being unhappy. People are demanding a better quality of marriage, it might take two or three attempts to get it right.

Custom Essays on marriage today

With the majority of one-parent families being created through divorce, we can't use lone parents as an example of marriage being less valued. Lone parent families are often only temporarily in this situation and like divorcees go on to remarry.

On the surface, the significant decline in marriage can appear to suggest its unimportance. This can simply reflect an increase in cohabitation. Attitudes have changed, it's quite acceptable to have a sexual relationship and children outside wedlock. Living with a partner can be as strong and binding as marriage. Many people choose to cohabit and have a family. They're married in every sense of the word, only without the certificate. If anything it reinforces the idea that marriage is very important. Ensuring we have chosen the right person to be our partner before committing ourselves. Many cohabiting couples go on to get married later. Again, we have more choices nowadays, we're not expected to rush into things we're not sure of. The cost of a wedding ceremony must also be taken into consideration. For the average family, finding thousands of pounds for something they're living quite happily without isn't always easy.

Less than half of today's weddings are a traditional religious ceremony. A civil ceremony is a popular option. This sort of wedding can be held anywhere and involve almost anything. Some will view this as trivialising marriage, rewriting vows and choosing bizarre locations for the ceremony. However the couples involved must be taking things pretty seriously to go to such lengths. After all, it's their day and they're personalising things because it is so special to them. With church membership and attendance down we see an increasing number of couples doing things their own way. This is down to attitudes and beliefs changing and with it the idea of what marriage is about.

Conventional roles within the family are changing. Some women no longer want to be a mother and housewife first. Their expectations of marriage are different from the past. Careers for both sexes can be priority to create a stable environment for relationships and children later on. This confirms the value of marriage. The average age at marriage has increased.

The difference between the past and the present is the choices we have. If we're unhappily married we have the option to change things. If we choose to cohabit there's no strain on us to marry if we're not ready. When we do marry we can say how and where. Modern life demands a certain quality in relationships. We want to get more out of a relationship outside the home. We want to be friends with our partner and spend free time together. Marriage isn't less valued today, the way we live our lives has changed and so have our reasons for choosing married life.

Please note that this sample paper on marriage today is for your review only. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. He also despises hypocrites although he becomes one at the end of his life.

In the previous winter, Elizabeth Proctor had gotten very ill. John Proctor had committed lechery with Abigail Williams during this time. Abigail told John that there was no witchcraft going on. When the trial had started, Elizabeth was begging John to go to the court and explain to the court what Abigail had told him. In "A Rose for Miss Emily", William Faulkner uses a setting from which he is both familiar and knowledgeable. For he grow-up in the south, some would say that he is a die-hard southern. "A Rose for Miss Emily" is set in a town that resembles the town in which he grow-up in as child and men in her life.

Perhaps the passing of Miss Emily's father is the best thing that could happen to Miss Emily. After all she is 0 and not married, in the era in which the story is set most young ladies married well before they are 0 years old. While her father was alive he turned away any suitor that would call on Miss Emily. Now she has the chance to meet and marry someone this would be a difficult task at her age. But she is like a loaded pistol waiting to go off it not handle with gentle caring hands.

The character Homer Barron, could have been chosen as a suitor for many reasons one that comes to minds is he is the exact opposite of Miss Emily. He is "a Yankee, big, ready man with a big voice and eyes lighter than his face" (page 1). Homer was a northern and day laborer, not one that a young lady of the South would even, consider especially Miss Emily Grierson. Miss Emily is described as a slender figure; one would envision a petite and quite young lady a true Southern bell.

Emily's relationship with Homer affects the way the town sees her. "As soon as the old people said ‘‘'Poor Emily"' the whispers began. ‘"Do you suppose it's really so?" (Page 1) risking your family name for the sake of love and companionship. Miss Emily's character makes a change she begins to appear very confident and boastful, wanting the respect of those around her. Many of the ladies and elders think that she is a disgrace to the town and not a very good role model for the young people. It is not appropriate for a young lady and a man to just parade around town as she and Homer are seen doing most Sunday afternoons.

As with her relationship with her father her relationship with Homer was all doomed. Miss Emily apparently feels that she has no choice but kill Homer. When she goes to the drug store to get the arsenic, she shows no concerns for other s will think. She buys the arsenic, and the rumors are flying all around the small town. ‘"She will kill herself''(page ), and some actually thought it would be the best thing, after all she is a disgrace to herself and her family name at this point. But then she goes out and buys a toilet set and two suits for a man, could it be they are getting married?

As a result of the failure of her relationship with Homer for the next forty years very few people could say that they had seen Miss Emily on the streets this small town. And no one had seen Homer Barron, but it is believed that he went

to where he came from back east. "And so she died. Fell ill in the house filled with dust and shadows, with only a doddering Negro man to wait on her". (Page ) In the part of the story one would become sad and weep over the death of Miss Emily. Although she was a strange lady and we believe that committee murder earlier in the story. Imagine an old lady alone all her life and no one to care for her but a servant.

Miss Emily only wants what most young ladies her age want out of life a husband and family. Not grow old alone and die alone. Her father shattered that dream before he passes, not allowing suitors to call on Miss Emily. When Homer Barron took an interest or pity on Miss Emily it was a dream come true. Someone to love her or at least in her mind she thought someone to love her, but she could let him go; he is the only one who ever showed her any kind of attention.

As discovered in the end Miss Emily is not alone that she had done the unthinkable all for the sake of love. She did murder Homer Barron only to have his body in a bed that she she sleeps. She did not go through life alone nor did she die alone, for she had Homer Barron by her side.

Our story begins with a tall and very shapely woman if you get my drift. Anyway this tall shapely woman was trying her best to book a business meeting. She was sitting there watching the flickering of the computer screen while she haggard over the phone. She groaned as she saw the screen flicker and die the same happened with the lights and the remote cottage was plunged into darkness.

"What a time for a power cut" she muttered

"Now I will have to drive to London suppose you don't appreciate something until you have lost it" she added after some thought

She took some time to gather up her equipment and briefcase.

Due to the fact that she was in a very remote area she had to drive through several deserted roads but tonight the moon was out and the roads were clear.

Her business meeting was uneventful, however the trip home would not be.

After the meeting she started off home in her new car. For some unknown reason she had problems getting home, she just could not find any roads she knew and the moon which she could have sworn was full when she set out was now know where to be seen.

No matter how hard she tried she could not find any roads she knew. She usually took low keyed roads unlike the bumpy and poorly maintained roads like these. The hedges at the sides had the same gnarled dead tree that looked like a dead withering old man every 10 metres.

As she went over a deep pot hole her knee hit the radio and turned it on.

A serious voice floated around the car it said

"a maniac is on the lose and is armed with two small sharp axes, he is tall and dark with a beard he is wearing black trousers and a black jumper"

she jabbed at the radio in her egerness to turn it off, this really disturbed her.

So she decided to take a rest in a approaching garage.

As soon as she got there a strange deformed park attendant lumbered towards her car.

As she go out the attendant muttered that he would refuel the car while she had a bite to eat.

The words were a suggestion but she felt she could not disobey them.

While in the caf she could not take her eyes off the attendant, in half an hour he came back in and said that all was ready

Just as she was walking towards her car she heard the deformed man shout at her, then he was running after her at that point she ran to the car paused to unlock it but found it strangely unlocked

Without thinking she dived in and reved up the engine .

Just as she got out of the garage forecourt she heard him shout "there's someone in your car"

She looked in the rear view mirror and saw two gleaming eyes, the last thing she saw was two gleaming axes closing in on their target

Love is what makes the world go round and it is a much broader topic than would appear. As stated in genre two, "Love is not one thing but many. Love is everywhere!" Through much study and research on this very topic, many things have become obvious. Love has an enormous existence and comes in many shapes and forms.

After reading James Nagel's brilliant piece of writing, ‘In Love and War', you come to see just how strong and passionate love can really be. The boundaries in which love will reach in order to keep its fine existence are surprising. This novel is a perfect example of how real love can overcome any obstacles which may arise. The book is set in the horrific war torn country of Italy, where two personalities meet and discover the passionate connection existing between them. The way in which their love survives is not only beautiful, but influential.

Through my studies I have come to realize that love can be mistaken in several ways. It can be hard to distinguish the difference between love and infatuation, love and attraction, love and sexual desire, love and friendship, sex and intimacy and between a good relationship and one that is only pleasurable. Before I began to take notice, I thought of love plain and simple, it was either there or it wasn't and when it was, you'd know it. I now know that love exists everywhere, between all sorts of people. Everyone at one point in their life experiences love. Something that I never noticed before though, that is now obvious, is that love doesn't only exist in sexual relationships. The dictionary states that love is

Help with essay on Love-Reflective Essay

A deep, tender, ineffable feeling of affection and solicitude toward a person, such as that arising from kinship, recognition of attractive qualities, or a sense of underlying oneness. An intense emotional attachment, as for a pet or treasured object.

The meaning of love offers and explains a definition of love in a way that is interesting, intense, clear, logical and meaningful. Love exists in all relationships whether it be love, infatuation, friendship, dating, marriage, family, community and professional.

While researching this very important topic, I gathered together some incomparable sources. The novels, short stories, songs and movies etc. that I researched held some great examples of love and its many kinds. These sources really helped me to better understand my topic. I now understand that love is something you and I must have. We must have it because our spirit feeds upon it. We must have it because without it we become weak and faint. Without love our self esteem weakens. Without it our courage fails. Without love we can no longer look confidently at the world. We turn inward and begin to feed upon our own personalities, and little by little we destroy ourselves. With it we are creative. With it we march tirelessly. With it and with it alone, we are able to sacrifice for others.

What I now know is that love is not just a word. I have learnt that love is a feeling. Love is a thing that is so strong you can't resist it. It is the best feeling that one will ever experience but it can also be the most painful. As written by Katie in ‘What thing is Love?', "Love is a thing, it is a prick; it is a sting, it is a pretty, pretty thing. It is a fire; it is a coal, whose flame creeps in at every hole. And as my heart best devise, love dwells in my eyes. From whence do glance loves piercing darts, that makes such holes in our hearts?...Love is pain, it simply drives me insane."

As I said before love is the best feeling one can feel but if it goes wrong, love will be the most painful thing you'll ever encounter. Love is all good when the love is returned but, whether it be in family, friendship or sexual relationships, if love is not returned then it can be a terribly agonizing experience to overcome. Love is what makes the world go round. It is the cure for all the ills and wrongs, the cares, he sorrows and crimes of humanity all lie in that one word "Love". It is the divine vitality that produces and restores life. To each and every one of us it gives the power of working miracles, if we will.

Of the 155 miles envisioned for the system only 5 miles are in place so far. This piece of the metro system, took 4 years and 15,000 workers to construct. By 005, 8 miles are expected to be finished and operational. The entire system is to be completed by 01. This system was built with the consulting support of Japan, South Korea, and the United States, at a cost of $ billion for the first 8 miles. The state-of-the-art structure will be superior to those of New York and Tokyo.

New Delhi's roads are the busiest roads in India. This metro rail system will bring much decongestion throughout the streets. About seventy percent of the New Delhi's air pollution is caused by vehicles, mostly buses. Some people oppose the metro system. They say that this is not the solution to our problem because New Delhi's growth pattern was different from the growth patterns of Western cities and that the metro system may not be the best solution. New Delhi's bus system is poorly maintained. Buses are what take up most of the streets. Dinesh Mohan, a professor at the Urban Transportation Department of India, said "India needs a better, more modern, high tech bus system. It would be far cheaper for a low income country like ours."

As crime against women increased, people were told that women would not be harassed on the metro, because trains and train stations would be heavily guarded. In a city where most buildings and transportation are inaccessible to the physically disabled, the metro would be "Disabled-Friendly." India made a considerable attempt to "educate" the people of New Delhi, on how to use the new metro system. This educational process was required because the people of India are not used to dealing with such a sophisticated mass transit system.

John Locke expressed a more positive outlook on man and his natural qualities. He believed that men are instinctively good, moral, and rational, and as a result, are naturally capable of governing themselves. This raises the question as to why such a civil group would enter into a state of governed society and give up their "natural liberty." "The great and chief end, therefore, of men's uniting into commonwealths, and putting themselves under government, is the preservation of their property" (P. 1, Two Treatises of Government). Essential to Locke's works and ideas is the importance placed on private property. One's property was very important to the family for numerous reasons and it was necessary to protect and secure. Locke describes property as being unsafe and insecure; individuals therefore agree to give up their freedom to protect their estate and the need for a supreme power arises. "The great end of men's entering into society, being the enjoyment of their properties in peace and safety........." (P. 4, Two Treatises of Government). Individuals not only give up their liberty to protect and guarantee the safety of their property, but it also makes governing and controlling people more organized and efficient; natural morality can be secured more effectively. "And this puts men out of a state of nature into that of a common-wealth, by setting up a judge on earth, with authority to determine all the controversies, and redress the injuries that may happen to any member of the commonwealth;..." (P. 5, Two Treatises of Government).

Hobbes and Locke may have been philosophers hundreds of years ago, but their ideas are not only relevant in past societies, but also to ours today. In an abundance of societies and cultures, humans hold a certain amount of power amongst family, friends, and acquaintances. There is however a line drawn between the issues we have power over and those which we do not. As was expressed by both Hobbes and Locke, individuals must agree to give up some of their rights and freedoms, and submit to a higher power that can control, regulate, and protect the people. Hobbes believed that without rules and limitations set by a Commonwealth, humans would run free and there would be chaos and anarchy. Locke based his ideas on the preservation of one's property and how to best run a public efficiently. Although Hobbes and Locke expressed different beliefs about the natural state of man, the two understood that, whether man is naturally good or naturally evil, Commonwealths and governments are essential to our secure and peaceful existence.

The luxuries, conveniences available to mankind has a latent relation with the the developent of strong and independent individuals. Human psychology has always been to get the easiest way out. whether it is a strenght or a weakness but the fact of the matter is, this instinct has only given way to developement of this contemporary civilization with all the fancies, other wise we would have been there only where our ancestors were. But there is a flip side also, which tells the misuse or overuse of things meant for good may also cause negative impact.

I have recently read in a health mazgin, even excessive rest causes problems like anxiety and depression. So calling luxuries and conveniesnces totally harmless may not be correct. Let us take a exapmple of Alcohal, every one know drinking excessively is a bad habit, but if taken as per doctors advice some times proved to be good. Similarly the luxuries and conveniences are there for a specific purpose but should not be exceeded from certan limit otherwise will start hindering our development.

Similarly like telephone though made our life much easier, brought distances closer, but same time people even talk to others over telephone, when there are just in adjecent cubical or a stone throw away distances. But some one may device such a luxury and give a convenience to students to do post graduation before learning are graduation subjects. Causes of World War One

The first world war began on August 14th, 114. It was triggered by the assassination of the Austrian archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie Chotek duchess of Hohenberg at 1115 on June 8th, 114. They were assassinated bythe Black Hand, Serbian Nationalist Gavrilo Princip. The war wasnt started until about a month after the assassination and the archduke and his wife. This incident was what ignited the spark to the greatest and deadliest was known to man up until that time. After this assassination one thing had led to another, and soon enough it created a world level war, leaving about 10 million troops dead. The four main causes in which were held responsible for this were the forming on Alliances, Nationalism came into play, Imperalism was a big part, and lastly militarism. What is this war? It is mud, trenches, blood, rats, lice, bombs, pain, barbed wire, decaying flesh, gas, death, rain, cats, tears, bullets, fear and a loss of faith in all that we once believed in. Otto Dix

Firstly, an alliance is an agreement made between two or more countries to provide help for eachother if it is needed. When an alliance is signed, those countries become known as allies. Alliances were formed to make two groups. These groups were better known as the Triple Alliance and the Triple Entente. The Triple Alliance (Central Powers) consisted of Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy. And the Triple Entente (Allies) consisted of Britain, France, and Russia. It was thought at first that alliances would promote peace, since each country would be protected by others in case of war, making it foolish for one country to declare war on another. But this statement is wrong!Alliances cause such a HUGE problem since if one of the allies were to attack one of the central powers or vice versa then all of the countries that were part of the allies of central powers would also be forced to fight, causing maybe a little problem into a HUGE world war. In the case of world war one the attack on Serbia forced all of its allies to come to its defense and fight with them. As you can tell thats why the war was on such a high level, since all of the other countries were forced to fight the battle also.

Secondly, Nationalism was a big part of world war one, the belief that loyalty to a persons nation and its political and economic goals comes befor any other public loyalty. During the 1800s nationalism got ahold of the people who shared a common language, history, or culture. This is what led to the creation of two new powers- Italy and Germany. Worse case scenario nationalism weakened the eastern European empires of Austria-Hungary, Russia, and Ottoman Turkey, This was a problem because these empires ruled national groups that strived for independance.

Ambition to Serve God through Blindness

One of the joys of living and working at the heart of a major city is being around so many bright, energetic people. These people have high expectations for themselves and others, high standards for what they can accomplish. Ambitious That's a good word for so many in our bustling society these days. But nobody will hear a great deal about ambition in church most Sundays. The richness of the imagery and symbolism which is referred to John Miltons poem about his own blindness, When I Consider How My Light is Spent, is a powerful ways to connect with the message of faith. Also, Milton gives us a picture of the importance of strong and healthy ambition, and the fear and passivity to serve God.

In the first place, the style of the poem is an Italian sonnet. The structure of the sonnet is a dialogue in the form of a question and an answer. It is divided into an octet which introduces the problematic situation and leads to the question, and into a sestet which offers a kind of answer to the problem. John Milton must have been deeply troubled by the disparity between fact and promise in his career. However, he refers to a very faint susceptibility to light still remaining to him. In the earlier part of the octet, John Milton alludes to the Parable of the Talents (Matthew 5 14-0), which performs a crucial job in the poem in that it negatively affects the way in which the reader perceives the voiced answer in the sestet. Here he has defined it as a measure of weight and hence of value; there is here, of course, a play on the word in its modern sense of his mental gift, in Milton's case his gift of poetry.

John Milton was stricken by blindness before beginning his great work, was overwhelmed by the possibility that he would fail to return his talent. In wresting with this possibility he wrote a poem on his blindness as When I Consider How My Light is Spent. John Milton was terrified that he might not invest the talents of his life well as consider "And that one Talent which is death to hide" (). Furthermore, he shows to despite the feeling that his Talent is "useless" (4), his "Soul more bent/To serve therewith my Maker, and present/My true account, lest he returning chide" (4-6). This recalls the view in the parable that God is a strict, exacting master to work for. John Milton knows, because the parable is a lesson that he should not feel this way about God, but he cannot seem to help it. He wants his writing and poetry, his body of work, as concrete proof to present to God that he has done everything he can to serve him, almost as if he does not trust that God will know and be fair to him on that Day of Judgment. In the sestet, God does not seem to need or want this true account, and in the context of line , when Milton effectively cuts off the phrase so that it is just "God doth not need" (), his wish to present this true account represents a significant crisis in the poem.

As he began to lose his vision faith was his consolation. How he expressed that consolation still is powerfully clear. This had to have been a shattering adversity to such a powerful man. Of course the phrase, "They also serve who only stand and wait" (14), is familiar one; Milton would like us to understand how patience, the muses, or the Holy Spirit be eventually reward the faithful steward. These people serve God best by simply accepting him in faith. It seems that the answer in the sestet tries to console John Milton who can no longer do day-labor for God by suggesting that he need only "stand and wait" (14) in order to be served.

John Milton came to be a dangerous man. It was his ability to express his strong views with words that was the most threatening. However, we also learn from him to be really ambitious is to live life of such balance that all the dimensions of our lives are honored belonging to our friendships, families, and communities. No gift is too small to be revered and used in the economy of creation. The smallest gestures of a letter written, a prayer offered, a child tutored, a check written, help given a colleague, make the world flow with more grace. Moreover, all the life of our souls and our longing are for God.

My grandmother always told me, You dont know where you are going until you know where you have been.Things just wouldnt be the same if we didnt have any evudence of where, when ,or how, America was shaped by Black History. In my opinion,Black History is just a classification of American history.Primarily because America would not be the free country it is today, if it were not for strong black leaders like Dr. Martin Luther King,Rosa Parks.African Americans have always showed strength and bravery in their beliefs. They have stood up when they were told to sit down and sang when thety were told to be silent.

African Americans contributed to major movements of our American constitution, such as Abolition of Slavery,Womens Rights, and also gave Americans of different countries the right to vote.Traditional reasons that individuals go to such extremes to flee their countries and come to the United States of America were initiated by intelligent minds that just so happened to be African Americans.Possessions and necessities needed in every day life were inspired and invented with determination and true heart by African American people.Personally,I would not want to live without my understandings of our past history.I would never want to imagine reading a poem by Langston Hughes or being deprived of one of the many inventions(invented by a strong brother or sister)I need so much.

We as a peolple discuss future ideas and plans that we intend to complete and go foward with, sometimes taking for granted our past heroes, sheroes, leaders, and teachers who paved the way for such events to happen.Things just wouldnt be the same if Colin Powell were not in office or if George Washington Carver had not invented peanut butter. There are so many aspects of American history but without Black history, the truth is,things just wouldnt be the same.
