They were meant to find solutions or answers to an existing problem. Religions were established around 800 B.C.-00 B.C., which was known as the Axial Age. I think human beings are blessed with philosophy, and relgion to live with. I believe we human beings see religion as some kind of philosophy. Dont you think religion is also a way of thinking about how we can live best? And philosophy is all about thinking. So we humans being posses this ability to think and believe, which is a blessing for us.

The first four civilizations to come up with their own religion and philosophy were China, India, Middle East, and Greece. They came up with different solutions to find the answers about everything. India and Middle East beliefs were based on religion, political and social, while China and Greece valued only political and social. China and Greece were identified as non-religious civilization, also known as Secularism. They obtain their answers by thinking. On the other hand, India and the Middle East find their solutions by God and what it says in the bible. I think religion is more influential than philosophy. Religion these days are growing and has been exposing themselves to the telivision, radio, and newspaper.

The creation of hinduism, buddhism, and jainism took place in India. In those religions, they served one or more gods, also called as polytheism. The people who served only one called were called monotheism. Those people originately came from the Middle eastern where judaism, christianity, and islam were born.

Confucianism was very popular around the year 500 B.C. A man named confucious started this great philisophy. When he died his students wrote books about him and his ideas. Confucious was a self educated man, who studied the society to find the answers for everything. The books that Confuciouss students have written for him was all about what their master said. Confucious teachings were about relationships in the family, the society, and the state. He thought humans were between heaven and earth. So if humans behavior becomes bad, then the relation between heaven and earth becomes bad. The relationships in the family were the resposibilites between husband and wife, father and son, mother and daughter, and older brother and youger brother. In the society, relationships were between the old and young, and the rich and poor. In the state, realtionships were between the rulers and subjects. Chinese people used history as a lesson. Educated people were civilized, and uneducated people were not. Confucious also taught his students about moral, gentlemen, and nobility.

They made their own laws and punishments. During the Chin dynasty, legalist were in controlled of china. The way they punished people was by killing them slowly. Mens were to serve the army with no choice. They had to bring their own supplies and food.

Legalism created their own enemy and one of them were the taoist Taoism created stability and social order. The taoism was based of the way of nature. They thought nature has a healing power, so they left their to live in nature. Taoism thinks education creates distinction.

In the twentieth century two key figures stand on top of the tower of tyrannical leaders Joseph Stalin and Adolf Hitler. Together these two leaders were responsible for more deaths and suffering than most can ever imagine. Their rise to power and their stability of power with their people could have been predicted though. In The Prince, Machiavelli outlined the type of behavior and leadership that is required to govern a country. Machiavelli's book outlines, among other concepts, the use of any and all means, war, and fear in order to rise to power and stay in power. Thus, The Prince should be regarded as a guide to tyranny.

"We are fifty or a hundred years behind the advanced countries. We must make good this distance in ten years. Either we do it, or we shall be crushed." (Joseph Stalin in his speech to industrial managers, February 11). Machiavelli tells us in effect that the end justifies the means. Joseph Stalin accomplished something just short of a miracle in Soviet Russia in the period preceding World War Two. With his 5-year plans for industrialization and modernization, he transformed the Soviet Union from a backwards agriculturalist country to the industrial powerhouse that was able to withstand the massive onslaughts of Nazi Germany. To accomplish this, though, Stalin ordered the collectivization of soviet farms. By 140, almost all peasant and private farms had been collectivized, and private ownership of property had been almost completely abolished. About five million of the wealthier peasants, also known as kulaks, were "deported." No one ever heard from them again. The rest of the peasants were herded into collective farms, stripped of their individual lives, and forced to work the land to pave the way for industrialization. Despite a massive famine in early thirties due to collectivization, Stalin was able to produce enough grain and workers to feed the new and growing industry, and was able to hold off the Germans in WWII. Thus, in the eyes of Machiavelli, in the end the means were justified.

Machiavelli describes the relationship between statesmanship and warcraft in The Prince. He describes that in order to have sound laws, the presence of a sound military is required. He also asserts that successful warfare is the foundation for a successful state, and that successful warfare isn't just sheer overwhelming force, but also diplomacy, strategy, innovation, etc. Adolf Hitler transformed Germany from a destructed wasteland back into one of the most powerful nations in the world. To rebuild his country, he rebuilt Germany's military. His fascist ruling techniques instituted strong laws alongside the newly redeveloped military in a country that was nearly in a state of anarchy after WWI. His military tactics were very successful, with the German "Blitzkrieg" conquering almost all of Europe in a very short period of time. In Machiavelli's eyes, Hitler's successful warcrafting abilities were able to create a strong state and a successful prince.

One of the most stressed of Machiavelli's concepts was that in order to rule effectively and stay in power a prince should be feared but not hated. Joseph Stalin spread fear across his nation. Stalin eliminated opposition, such as Trotsky and Kirov, and used them as excuses for purging millions of citizens into forced labor camps and their own deaths. Kirov's assassination, in particular, was used as an excuse for the Great Terror of the 0's, and the draconian and tyrannical laws instituted by Joseph Stalin during that time period. To help with the elimination of his opposition, the Secret Police, under Stalin's orders, arrested and executed millions of political dissenters. By using extreme fear, Stalin was able to stay in power until his death in 15. While Machiavelli may not have approved of murder on the scale of Joseph Stalin's, this is nevertheless a prime example of using fear to stay in power, and people were too afraid of Stalin to hate him.

Order Custom Machiavelli: Guide to Tyranny paper

So, if Stalin and Hitler were brought to power and stayed in power by the actions outlined in The Prince, then why did they fail in the end? The answer is simple. Stalin and Hitler failed because they strayed from Machiavelli's teachings. Hitler went too far and let personal grievances take control of his power. He became greedy in his warcrafting, and slaughtered millions of Jews because of a personal hatred for them. Stalin simply became hated. His use of fear was taken too far, and by the end, he was more hated than feared. This being said, these two individuals are perfect examples of why Machiavelli's The Prince is a guidebook to tyranny. Had they stayed true to his concepts, there is no telling what the world might be like today. If there is a Hell, along with Hitler and Stalin, Machiavelli is most likely in it.

Our staff of freelance writers includes over 120 experts proficient in the ugly american, therefore you can rest assured that your assignment will be handled by only top rated specialists. Order your the ugly american paper at affordable prices with cheap essay writing service! "The simple fact is, Mr. Ambassador, that average Americans, in their natural state… are the best ambassadors a country can have. But something happens to most Americans when they go abroad… feel that they must live up to their commissaries and big cars and cocktail parties." This quotation taken from a conversation between Minister of Defense, Magsaysay and MacWhite basically shows the main point the authors of The Ugly American, William J. Lederer and Eugene Burdick were trying to get across. This main point being that Americans have the potential to be some of the best ambassadors in the world. However, when these same Americans are sent abroad, a transformation occurs in which they believe they are expected to live up to the standard of American luxury, such as numerous servants, large houses, and extravagant houses, negating any chance of completing their duties. The Ugly American goes on to further attack the indolence of the majority of American ambassadors through countless fictional accounts based on true events.

Louis Sears, which the reader meets at the beginning of the novel, is a perfect example of the ignorance of many American Ambassadors. An example of this is his inability to read any of the Sarkhanese printed in a cartoon printed in the Eastern Star, a Red paper. Considering he was appointed as the American Ambassador of Sarkhen, not understanding the language would pose a rather large problem. Another problem revolves around what convinced him into taking the job of Sarkhan's Ambassador. It wasn't because he desired to make a difference or to help drive away the communists that were slowly taking over Sarkhan. The position of Sarkhan's American Ambassador was simply a temporary thing he could take until a federal judgeship opened up in two years. Therefore, it only stood to reason that Mr. Sears would have no real interest in helping out the Sarkhanese people.

Further fallacy in the way America handles its oversea affairs can be found in chapter 6, Employment Opportunities Abroad. One only has to look at how life is portrayed in overseas positions to see the why overseas affairs are handled so badly. During a conference for employment opportunities abroad, a guest speaker, Joseph Bing is bought in to speak about overseas affairs. He starts off his speech by briefly touching upon the duties of working overseas and then quickly switches over to the matter of social affairs, which he holds with much higher importance. He speaks in-depth about how housing is free, food and liquor is inexpensive, and how easy it is to obtain servants. All this that Joseph Bing talks about shows how oversea officials place their own personal interests before their duties.

In conclusion, though Americans have the ability to be some of the world's best ambassadors because of their non-suspicious attitudes, eagerness to share skills, and generosity, these attributes are often clouded by poor selection on the part of the government. Instead of choosing people such as Colonel Killandale, Father Finian, John Colvin, or John Atkins; people who genuinely want to help better the lives of people in less developed countries, the government, sadly, too often chose representatives like Louis Sears, George Swift, and Joseph Bing; people who don't understand the culture and language of the country they are appointed to and only care about their own personal interests.

What we need from you is to provide us with your detailed paper instructions for our experienced writers to follow all of your specific writing requirements. Our staff of freelance writers includes over 120 experts proficient in i dunno, therefore you can rest assured that your assignment will be handled by only top rated specialists. Order your i dunno paper at affordable prices with cheap essay writing service! Throughout my entire life, every mention I've heard of Julius Caesar has been accompanied by a remark about Brutus, his best friend and murderer. This whole time, I have been thinking that Brutus, in cold blood, murdered Caesar for purely selfish reasons. I was never given any viewpoint opposite of that, and I think that this general bias is what mainly makes Brutus out to be a tragic hero.

Shakespeare's work, Julius Caesar, has been entertaining, teaching, and inspiring people for centuries. It is one of his most famous works, and definitely one of his most respected. In it he gives a narrative account of the days leading up to the death of Julius Caesar, and a few days afterward. These days were very important in history, because they marked the downfall of one of the most powerful rulers of all time. Because of this, people have been blaming the murder of Julius Caesar on Brutus, Julius Caesar's best friend. Until now, I know I have not sought to question this bias, but I feel, after reading this play, that I have been presented with an appropriate means to assess the murder.

Throughout the first and second acts of the play, we are practically beaten over the head with the idea that Brutus is one of the most honorable Romans in the great city, and that he is a very trusted individual. Brutus appears to be a very dignified person, carrying himself with grace, not making any waves, being strictly non-judgmental, and standing up for the people of Rome at all times. He plays a witness to the rise of Caesar while still managing to hold his place in society as a patriarch. He is truly a man of good standing and a worthy role model.

At the beginning of the play, we are also introduced to Caius Cassius, a bitter, vengeful man who believes that Julius Caesar is "too ambitious" and "too powerful," that he may become a dictator and a threat to Rome. Cassius is a very spiteful man, but he is also a coward. He knows that the people of Rome will not be swayed by what he has to say. He therefore decides to form a conspiracy of honorable men, men who will be trusted by Rome, in order to keep Caesar in check. He goes to Brutus, flattering him and telling him that he is just as powerful and dignified as Julius Caesar, and that Caesar is unworthy of the power he has received. He slowly manages to work away at Brutus' values, making it seem like Brutus has come up with the idea of Caesar's downfall on his own. He manipulates Brutus' own house in order to achieve his goals, and manages when Brutus decides to join the conspiracy.

Cheap College Papers on i dunno From the moment Brutus decides to join the conspiracy, the audience is already moved to feel sympathy for him. He is being manipulated by the rest of the conspirators, and he doesn't know it. This dignified man, in good standing with the entirety of Rome, is manipulated into overthrowing one of the most powerful men of all time. In this way, Brutus is dragged down to the level of common criminals, destroying his reputation and ruining him for the rest of his life, however short it may be.

The reasons why Brutus is the tragic hero of Julius Caesar are abound, but a few stick out in particular. First of all, Brutus suffered from a terribly character flaw he was a very weak-willed man. Cassius is able to manipulate him using flattery in many parts of the story, chiefly in Act I, Scene II, Lines -184, and Act I, Scene II, Lines 00-5. Brutus is unable to maintain his dignity when Cassius is praising him with the sweet words he used. This flaw, this incapability, makes him a tragic hero as much as anything else.

The second chief point that makes Brutus the tragic hero of the story is that was not ever in control of the situation. He was manipulated from the very start by Cassius into going against his friend Caesar (Act I, Scene II, Lines -184), and Caesar was not there to support himself. If Caesar were there to defend himself, Cassius would never have had the chance to stick his barbs of poison into Brutus. Brutus' weakness to flattery was not his fault, either; he was born with it. It is an inherent trait, and because of it Brutus was manipulated by Cassius and is not at fault for what he did. For this reason also, he should be considered the tragic hero of this play.

These points are the main ideas of the debate behind the reasons of Brutus' betrayal. He was not able to make his own decisions, because he was born with an inability to withstand flattery. This makes him irresponsible for his crime. In addition, Brutus was a dignified political figure, and through the manipulation that occurred by the conspirators against Caesar, he was pulled down through the ranks of Roman Society until he was at the level of common criminal. The hardship that affected Brutus was just as much or more than the downfall that Caesar experienced, and because of this, Brutus is the tragic hero of William Shakespeare's masterful work, Julius Caesar.

A mesh topology is a network topology that has at least two nodes with two or more paths between them. The advantage is that if a node fails or is busy then there is alternate path traffic can be routed to. The disadvantage is the cost since this requires the extra equipment.

A horizontal bus is when all nodes are connected by a single bus or line. This allows every node to receive every transmission. The disadvantage to this topology is that if the bus fails all communications are down.

A Ring topology consists of every node has two branches to it, a receiving branch and a sending branch. As the name implies all nodes are connected in a ring. The advantage is that it rarely suffers from bottlenecks and is easily implemented. The disadvantage is that if the branch between nodes fails then the network is down.

A star topology consists of a central node that receives a transmission from any peripheral node and retransmits that signal to all the nodes including the original broadcaster. The advantage is that if you lose one node the rest of the network still works. The disadvantage is if you lose the central node the network is down. It is also prone to bottlenecks.

Ethernet is a Protocol standard fro transmitting 10 mbps. Xerox originally developed it. An Ethernet LAN utilizes RG-58 Coax, Category 5 UTP (Unshielded Twisted Pair) and or Fiber Optics.

An advantage to this network is that is usually very fast, probably the least expensive to implement and extremely reliable. The disadvantage is the setup can be difficult.

Token ring networks pass a token around the network. If the peripheral has the token it can transmit its signal. The token only sits on the peripheral for a limited amount of time.

The advantage is that network traffic is predictable meaning that it can be calculated how long it takes a token to pass through the network. It makes it ideal for factory automation. The disadvantage is that if the sending device fails its sending device may continue to circle the frame essentially locking up the network. There is error handling in place for such things but this puts a lot of traffic on the network to monitor this type of thing. This network is expensive and is not as fast as Ethernet.

Fiber Distributed Data Interface (FIDDI) is used as the high-speed backbone of most large networks. It has the greatest bandwidth and allows for the longest runs. Its primarily transmission media is Fiber Optics but in certain instances can include copper.

The advantage of FIDDI is that is does not emit electrical signals so it cannot easily be tapped. It is immune to EMI and RFI. Unlike Copper, which limits the distance between stations, Fiber can exist between stations approximately miles apart using multimode fiber and longer fore single mode. The disadvantage of FIDDI is that it is costly to install and maintain.

Wireless Networking utilizes radio frequencies to connect two devices. The advantage is no wiring needs to be in place to connect to the network. The big disadvantage it is not secure and you are open to Hacking.

Custom writing service can write essays on Date Rape

She was awake now and completely oblivious to what had occurred the night before. As she sat up, she could still feel the affects of the alcohol that she had consumed at the party last night. She did not recognize the room that she was in and she wondered why she did not have any clothes on. As she looked to the clock on the bed stand, she noticed that it was almost noon. She got up, collected her clothes and headed for the bathroom. While she was in there, Eddie, her good friend entered the room. Eddie was a senior at the University of California. He was a star wide receiver on the football team and he was also the president of his fraternity. He had broad shoulders, a perfectly toned body, and a very handsome face. Eddie was considered a big catch for any girl. He was "Mr. Popular" yet, he was a very big player with all of the ladies.

Thinking that she had gone, he proceeded to make a phone call to one of his friends, bragging about how he had slept with Sarah the night before. Sarah dropped her brush when she heard him say this. Eddie stopped talking on the phone and walked over to the bathroom. She quickly gathered herself and opened the door when he knocked.

"I thought you had left," explained Eddie.

"No, I just woke up and came in here to get cleaned up before I went home," replied Sarah. She decided that she was going to pretend that she did not hear him and that she had no idea about what had happened the night before.

"How are you feeling this morning," said Eddie as he pretended to care. "You sure did drink a lot at the party last night."

"I feel alright. Thanks for taking care of me."

"No, problem," he replied with a faint smirk.

"I do have one question though," she said, holding back the tears, "How did I end up back here? Why didn't you just take me home last night?"

"You couldn't find your keys so I thought that you could just stay here."

"Well, thanks again. I'll see you around." She closed the door behind her and burst into tears. All she wanted to do was go back to her own dorm room and take a shower.

After she got out of the shower she went into her room and noticed that Amy, her roommate was on the phone with Eddie. They were planning on the three of us going to a party that night. I just walked in and laid on my bed. My mind was racing, I had so many questions. All I wanted to know was the truth about last night. Did we sleep together? Did he rape me? What really happened?

Amy got off the phone and told me of the plans that she had made for that evening. She also told me that Eddie said that I got really trashed last night. That was my big question though, "How much did I actually drink?"

Amy noticed that I was not paying attention and she asked what was wrong.

"Well, I'm not really sure about what happened last night," Sarah exclaimed.

"Eddie said that the party was awesome and that you both drank quiet a lot. How much did you drink?" she asked.

"I'm not sure. I think I only had four cups from the keg and that wouldn't have made me incoherent. I think that Eddie put something into my drink because I do not remember anything. All I know is that I woke up this morning in Eddie's bed without any clothes on." Sarah was in tears as she told her story to Amy.

"Are you sure that you guys had sex?" Amy asked.

"I heard him talking to one of his friends on the phone this morning while I was in the bathroom. He was bragging that he had got me into his bed." Sarah was crying even worse now and Amy had come over to comfort her friend.

"Do you know if he used protection?"

"I don't know? I have no idea about what happened. I don't remember going upstairs or anything along the lines of the sex that we had."

"What do you want to do now? Do you want to go to the hospital and check for diseases and pregnancies? Do you want to talk to Eddie and ask him any questions that you have?" Amy was very concerned about Sarah because she had never seen her this upset before and she was scared about any diseases that she may have acquired..

"I definitely do not want to talk to Eddie. I wouldn't know what to say and I hate him right now. Let's just go to the hospital and see if there is anything wrong with me?"

After several hours at the hospital, Sarah and Amy returned back to there dorm room with a sigh of relief. She found out that he did use a condom after all. Therefore, she was not pregnant or infected with any sexually transmitted diseases. However, Eddie is not very lucky because the doctors discovered a drug that was in her blood. They concluded that Eddie slipped this into her drink while they were at the party.

Sarah opted not to press charges against Eddie. Instead, she is going to make sure that everyone is aware about the situation that occurred. Sarah is also going to join a group that talks to young women about date rape. She will help others in the healing process and also speak out in the effort to prevent further incidents from occurring.

Comparison And Contrast Essay

Medea and Jason are the two main characters in the play Medea. They are two different characters who have very few similarities. Medea is a passionate woman who takes relationships seriously. However, Jason is a dispassionate, hedonistic manipulator of women. These characters were once a lovely couple who loved each other. These characters are the ones who create the climax of the whole play.

These two remarkable characters are exceptional for their unique traits. Medea used to show Jason her love for him by sacrificing many things for him. For instance, Medea killed many people for the sake of Jason. Jason, however, didn't help Medea at all, because he is a shallow character and a manipulator of women. For example, Medea sacrificed her reputation and life for her heartless husband, and he only gave her misfortunes. In the past, Medea was married to Jason, and he got in trouble many times. Once Jason stole the Golden Fleece from Medea's family. Medea's father chased after them but she killed her brother so the father would bury him and would not chase them. As a result, Medea killed her brother just to be with Jason. This gave her misfortunes because she could not even see her own father and had to kill her own brother. Medea is a revengeful person and a sorceress. She uses her magic to take revenge on other people. Medea made poison from her sorcery, which she uses to poison the present of the Princess. Then she kills Creon and the Princess to take revenge from Jason. Jason is an arrogant and hedonist person. He used other people to get power and live happier. As I said before, Jason once stole the Golden Fleece from Medea's family. Medea's father chased after them but she killed her brother so the father would bury him and would not chase them. As a result, Medea killed her brother just to be with Jason. He used Medea there to have the Golden Fleece and live happy and didn't care what happened to her. Jason is a person who is obsessed in increasing his social level and also his power. He manipulated Medea to make kill his brother when he stole the Golden Fleece from her father.

Although Jason and Medea have many differences, they have few similarities. Medea and Jason are very honest persons. They express their feelings of hatred to each other without even thinking about hurting each other's feelings, ¡°this is not the first occasion that I have noticed how hopeless it is to deal with a stubborn temper. (pg. 15-0). Another similarity about these characters is that they both love their own children. Medea doesn't want to kill her children but she has to because people will make them suffer if he left them alive. Medea demonstrates that she loves her children by saying ¡°oh children, oh my children, you have a city, you have a home, and you can leave me behind you, and without your mother you may live there forever. But I am going to exile to another land before I have seen you happy and taken pleasure in you, before I have dressed your brides and made your marriage beds. And held up the torch at the ceremony of wedding. (pg. -5). She also killed her children to make Jason suffer. Nevertheless, Jason goes to protect his children because he is afraid when Medea dies, his children will suffer too, so he goes to save them. When he went to rescue his children, he said, ¡°you women , standing close in front of this dwelling, is she Medea, she who did this dreadful deed, still in the house or has she run away in flight? For she will have to hide herself beneath the earth, or raise herself on wings into the height of air, if she wished to escape the royal vengeance. Does she imagine that, having killed our rulers, she will herself escape uninjured from this house? But I am thinking not so much of hers as for the children-her the king's friends will make you suffer for what she did. So u have come to save the lives of my boys, in case the royal house should harm them while taking my vengeance for their mother's wicked deed. (pg. 4). Also, these two characters are very determined in their tasks. Medea shows her determination by accomplishing her tasks of killing the Princess and King Creon. Furthermore, Jason is also a very determined person. He shows his determination little by little by trying to get more power. He also tries to raise his social status by marrying other Princesses from other countries.

Order your Slaughter House 5 paper at affordable prices! According to Mary O'Hare, the people who fight in wars are "just babies". How does the author support and illustrate this opinion in the narrative portions of Slaughterhouse 5 which deal with the war? By examining several scenes and images discuss Vonnegut's characterization of the American, German and English soldiers and show how Vonnegut portrays war as childish, and those who fight as children.

I didn't know that books could be this intriguing, disturbing, enlightening, satirical, and strange all at the same time. This story definitely has a message that is awkwardly strange in a sense that it is a common and blurred message. One of the messages that Vonnegut has through out the book are people who fight in wars are "just babies" as Mary O'Hare says. Mary gets upset with Vonnegut because she believes that he will glorify war in his novel; Vonnegut, however, promises not to do so. Slaughterhouse-Five is a condemnation of war, and Vonneguts decision to dedicate the novel in part to Mary suggests how deeply he agrees with her that the ugly truth about war must be told.

In the following paragraphs I will discuss Vonnegut's characterization of the German, American, and English soldiers; also how Vonnegut portrays the war as childish.

The soldiers during WWII in all the countries involved, were young men. During the play you realize the innocence of these boys and how the war has made them grow up to fast. Later in the book Werner Gluck a young German guard at the slaughterhouse. Gluck gets his first glimpse of a naked woman along with Billy. Their shared intrigue and interest in the naked female body unites these two men. Reflecting on this the boy is too young for war if he has never seen the opposite sex. Also their young age can unite these men even with their different ideologies. Another of example of the characterization of the Germans is on page 5 "two of the Germans were boys in their early teens." Billy then describes one of the boys as a blond angel; this again shows how young the men are fighting the war.

Help with essay on Slaughter House 5

Billy's encounter with British soldiers is in the P.O.W camp. On page Billy describes the English P.O.Ws as clean and enthusiastic. The Englishmen also had been lifting weights and chinning themselves for years. They were in great shape and were masters of checkers and chess and bridge and many other common games. The Englishmen made war look stylish and reasonable, and fun.

As for the Americans their troops were affected by the war also. Eliot Rosewater A war veteran who occupies the bed near Billy in the mental ward of a veterans hospital. Like Billy, Rosewater is suffering from the aftereffects of war. When young minds are exposed to the horrors of war the mind can not always cope. Billys son, who is a failure and a delinquent at school, though he cleans up his life enough to become a Green Beret in the Vietnam War. Roberts presence in the story during Billys later life helps illustrate the pervasiveness of Billys war trauma. Roberts successful self-reformation from delinquency to discipline (in Vietnam) seems to indicate Vonneguts acceptance of the inevitability of war.

Threw out Slaughterhouse 5 there are many messages to be understood. One of those messages is how war uses "babies" to fight. And the serious after effects of a war on a young mind. In Billy's case he went crazy from the horrible things he saw in war. Kurt Vonnegut does a great job showing how "babies" were fighting the war. So it goes. Hello, farewell, hello, farewell.

I have been asked to design a four-page magazine based on any topic of my choice. The topic I have chosen is dance music as this is one of my personal interests and I find that I would enjoy designing the magazine on this topic more than anything else. The reason I have chosen the style and design that I have is because hopefully it will catch the attention of the readers I am trying to aim it at and also offer them something different to look at apart from all the other dance magazines available.

I will be trying to aim this magazine at clubbers in general, young people aged between 18 to 0 and people with a keen interest in dance music like me, who are eager to know what's going on in the dance music culture.

To make this magazine before doing anything on computer I will plan and draw out a storyboard on A4 paper and work out the correct measurements of where all text and graphic boxes shall be laid and their measurements, I will then collect all the text, information and graphics needed from the internet, other magazines etc. I shall use this storyboard as a guide to layout the magazine on computer; to do this I will use a program called "Quark Xpress". Firstly I will create a new document and add all the pages required, I will then place all text and picture boxes, page rules and other objects correctly on the pages as shown on the storyboard with a slight few changes if needed.

I will use "Microsoft Word" for typing the text sections needed, using this program I can edit the text, font, size, style etc so it is ready to just be imported into the layout.

Write your magazine process research paper

With the graphics I collect I will open them using "PhotoShop", with this program I can edit the graphics so that they meet the requirements needed for putting them into the layout e.g. size, colour, shape etc. These graphics will have to be saved as TIFF files before being imported, as other file types are usually not supported in Quark Xpress. I will be using PhotoShop again to design the headings and titles for all the pages.

After I have finished all of the above such as editing Text files, graphics and such like they will then be imported into the page layout and possibly changed around if needed.

Please note that this sample paper on magazine process is for your review only. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. A Self Portrait

We have all had those feelings, the feelings of lust and love, when you experience that first kiss, or the split second after the words "I love you" spill out of your mouth. After reading "Lust" I could see the many similarities between me and the narrator. I too have been overcome with that feeling of lust as it overtook my mind. I relate to the feelings of rejection by my peers as if I was in the narrator's shoes struggling to be accepted by her peers.

My first experience with sex was exactly like the adventures of the young woman's in "Lust," there was no romantic moment as we embraced. I remember as we fell to the floor just fear and nervousness overtook my body. When I was reading over "Lust" I could only think how I too muttered the words "you wouldn't dream of saying that maybe you weren't really ready in the first place" (0). It wasn't love that overcame my heart after that experience but merely lust. I felt as though a part of me was now gone even though it was there a few hours before. I continued my misadventures in lust that year and with each sexual experience "it was as though a petal got plucked each time" (08), much like that of the narrator. There were many other sex partners after her and it was all in the name of lust and it seemed "sleeping with someone was perfectly normal once you had done it" (07).

Buy Lust Essay term paper

I remember bringing girls over to the house while my parents where there, and doing sexual things while my parents were merely in the next room. Like the young lady's dad "my father was to shy to talk to them at all…" (05). He would always smile when they walked in the house as if giving them permission to have their way with his son. I got lost in the girls that semester at school and similar to the narrator "I forgot about wanting to do anything else…," including my school work, and my job at the local restaurant, "…which felt like a relief at first until it became like sinking into a muck" (06). There was times when I went too far in my sexual world, like being with two different girls in a single day. With sex though for that split second as she would grab me and tell me that I was "special" I felt as thought I could accomplish anything. Just like with my first experience those feeling would fade and as I look back on that I can't help but think how I resemble that young lady when she said "you'd get carried away. All the next day, you'd be in a total fog, delirious, and absent-minded." (08).

I grew up in the bible belt of America, where there were more churches in my hometown than people. I recall having class discussions about saving yourself till marriage. It always seemed that ninety percent of the guys were waiting for that someone special to come along. I would sink low in my chair and feel ashamed of who I was, that feeling would haunt me till I was in the arms of another girl as if sex had became a drug to me. That drug was driven by lust, and that helped me feel as though I was complete for the time being. That feeling of lust continued on throughout my high school years. Girls came and went just like the ever changing months, and I would feel a sort of emptiness within me, when there wasn't a girl holding me in her arms.

"Teenage years. You know just what you're doing and don't see the things that start to get in the way" (06) is how the narrator described her life, and that also sums up much of my teenage years. I was so overcome with the feelings of lust that it fogged up much of my life. Those feelings have long since vanished and I believe that they shaped who I am today.

Is the Male Mid-life Crisis for real?

The male mid-life crisis is for real. "Crisis" means that during transition people have a breakdown in some of their normal life patterns of thinking so that they do not function at their ordinary lifestyles. For many men it seems that from forty on is all down hill. They still have thirty to thirty-five good and productive years left; yet they are asking, "Where do I go from here?" Some men go to the arms of a younger woman; others quit their job and try a new life style. The ones who hang on to their commitments are still beaten by a hurricane of fears, self doubt and frustrations.

The glories of a young man are his health and physical strength. The honor of an old man is his wisdom and experience. But what about the middle aged man? Is the benefit for his age a balding head and a beer belly? Someone once said that youth looks forward, old age looks backward and middle age looks worried. Mid-life can be a traumatic time for many people. During this time of life, many are thrown into a tailspin called a mid-life crisis. The ages a male goes through mid-life are thirty-five to fifty years.

Order custom research paper on Mid-Life Crisis in Males

One day, while talking to my dad, age forty, he stated, "Everyone's worried about the Economy this year. I'm worried about my beer belly and my hair loss, altogether I'm in depression." The day will come when you too look back at yourself and see a gut, or a receding hair line and think, "I'm not just getting older, I'm getting old." Welcome to mid-life. During his forties, if a man has been hard-working, the fruits of his labors-a home and family, material possessions will probably surround them. Then, before anything dramatic happens, small troublesome doubts may appear, perhaps followed by a series of dramatic irrational events leading up to great change. During this crisis, all men ask themselves, "Is this all there is?" or "Am I a failure?" The negative impact the aging process has on the male's body can also be a shock to his mind and emotions. Part of calming mid-life crisis is accepting in your mind what is taking place in your body. The crisis begins when you refuse to accept the fact you are aging.

Symptoms and Behaviors during a mid-life crisis can range from mild to severe. Symptoms may include boredom and exhaustion. When a male is on his own and gets a job, he is first very excited, but then things become very repetitive. He gets up, goes to work and comes back home. By the time he reaches the age of forty he will have done the same things repeatedly for two decades. Another symptom is self questioning or regrets. The male mid-lifer has had plenty of time to reflect upon the decisions he has made so far in his life. He ponders about the career choices and may feel his dissatisfaction is due to wrong decisions he has made in his life. He may think he chose the wrong career, moved to a wrong area, and even married the wrong woman. This can be very stressful on a man. All of this is probably not true but in his mind he is convinced it is.

Un-reached goals are also a very big issue. When you were a little boy you dreamed of being very rich by the age of 0. You are now 40 and have trouble paying your bills. You were going to be a star point guard for the NBA, but instead you are watching basketball every night on television. The goals one sets for himself were never accomplished. The motivation and dreams he once had for reaching those goals died as well. This failure could cause a middle-ager to panic and search for a better or new reason to live.

The good news is that mid-life does not last forever! There is a light at the end of the tunnel. Dealing with a mid-life crisis takes time and energy, but at the same time can help a man find greater satisfaction and pleasure in his life. The first thing he should do is not to panic because it will lead to bad decisions. Decisions made on an emotional roller coaster will probably be wrong ones. The second thing one should do is accept the fact that mid-life is part of God's plan. You can enjoy yourself as you mature. Accepting and sharing feelings helps the mid-life crisis for a male. Aging is inevitable, but decline is not. With acceptance, you can allow yourself to grieve over losses. By sharing your feelings you can relieve fears and frustrations. Mid-life crisis is not going to pass through quickly; you are not going to get over it in one day or even a month. It takes years.

Of course there are other lifestyle changes that are extremely positive and help you grow mentally and physically. For example, one might eat better, exercise, get more sleep, and cut out the "junky" obligations that used to think were so important. Many lifestyle changes at mid-life can be great fun as you re-focus your values and energies towards the things in life that when you were younger. Valuing rethinking is very important and life style changes are helpful, but one should avoid changes that will cause long-term problems.

Please note that this sample paper on Mid-Life Crisis in Males is for your review only. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. In case you experience difficulties with writing a well structured and accurately composed paper on Mid-Life Crisis in Males, we are here to assist you. My post-MBA short-term goal is to get a position in finance at either an emerging technology company of information technology or telecommunication, or an investment bank that finances start-up companies of high technology.

I am specifically interested in the finance, because venture capital is one of the core parts of a successful business plan that will lead to sustainable growth. I believe the Pacific Rim has the largest market of unmet technological needs, where can help me to get the hands-on pragmatic experience in the field of entrepreneurship. Even though I have accumulated strong professional experiences in information technology, I need an advanced training in finance and its management in order to make effective decisions across an entire organization, from finance to marketing and sales.

My post-MBA long-term goal is to become a CEO in a telecom and/or IT company. I will try to establish an R&D enterprise in the information technology or a small to medium sized new value-added service operator to focusing on the MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) market in mobile communication in China. In order to pursue this goal, I would like to enroll in a business school that emphasizes entrepreneurship in the high-tech industry and cutting-edge knowledge of telecom management.

My career goals have been slowly shaped by my 1 years professional experience. I have worked from a market representative, project leader to now as the executive manager and sales director. I have demonstrated my leadership and perfected my communication skills. I am confident that I can best achieve my goals through the advanced education provided at Marshall. I realize that the strength in general management and entrepreneurial studies and telecom management, combined with its focus on the West Coast, exactly mirrors my aspirations. These strengths are evident not only in the curriculum, but also in the Prime Program, through which I plan to return to China.

Buy post-MBA short-term goals and post-MBA long-term goal term paper

Moreover, my post-MBA short-term goals demonstrate that I am aware that textbooks are not the most critical component of an MBA program; contact with real business people is just as vital. The large population of international students and strong alumni base are especially conducive to forming lasting friendships and developing business ventures. Finally the school's proximity to Los Angeles and Silicon Valley will give me access to one of the largest concentrations of technology companies in the world. It also allows me to be closer to my friends who also have the similar long-term career goal of mine.

If I work in a corporate finance position at a high technology company at start-up, I will endeavor to practice the skills required to recognize opportunity, develop a business concept, test that concept through feasibility analysis, and write a comprehensive business plan. If I work in an investment bank facing high technology start-ups, I will be trained on the entrepreneurial skill set applied to finding and selecting new venture investment opportunities from the business plan reader's point of view, and building a relationship with the principals, structuring the investment, adding value as a non-executive manager, and realizing the value of that investment.

A man, a husband, a father, a soldier, a hero, whose heart is full of love and longing to be with his family faced the perilous journey with the determination to be reunited with his wife and son he had not seen in twenty years. A faithful wife who waits year after year for her husband's return used her wits to keep her suitors away. A son, who was a toddler when his father left, grew up to love and respect him and could wait no longer for his return so he set out on a dangerous journey in search of his father. This is Homer's story, poem, and song, "The Odyssey", a portrait of a hero, a Greek soldier, Odysseus, in trouble.

The style Homer used to captivate his audience is in the way the story is presented. It was written a very long time ago when men believed in myths and gods and fairies. Men would pray to the gods and make their sacrifices to appease the gods, "….black bulls were being offered by the people to the blue-manned god who makes the islands tremble."(p.77). King Nestor was having a religious ritual, in honor of the sea god Poseidon. This poem is sometimes being told in a song-like fashion, "Sing in me, Muse, and through me tell the story of that man skilled in all ways…." The singers will also give hints about how the story is going to end. Homer also used figures of speech to hold his audience interest. He compared heroic events to simple everyday events that the audience would easily grasp. "….What if his great father came from the unknown world and drove these men like dead leaves through the place …"

The quest of Odysseus to find of a way out of his troubles and finding his way home, and the quest of his son, Telemachus, to find his father to help him our of his troubles, give the structure of this story. The story starts with Telemachus, at age 0; he was frustrated with his mother's suitors. He was threatened in his own home by these powerful men who want to rob him of his inheritance, of his mother, and his self- respect. He dreamed of his father's return to help them regain respect and dignity. With the help of the goddess Athena he started his journey in search of his father. He was sent from place to place for news of his father. He was told glorified war stories of his father.

Do my essay on The Odyssey CHEAP ! Meanwhile, Odysseus was also helped by the god Zeus to start on his journey back home. Odysseus's journey back home was a dangerous one. Like his son, he was sent from one place to another with instructions on how to continue his journey. His greatest enemy was the god Poseidon, the god of the sea, who is known to be arrogant and cruel. Odysseus, in a confrontation with Cyclops, Poseidon's son, blinded him in an effort for him and his men to escape from his cave. Poseidon could not forgive him for that. Odyssey is in some ways like Poseidon. He too is arrogant. "O Cyclops! Would you feast on my companions? Puny, am I, in a Cavemen's hands? How do you like the beating that we gave you…..?". Here, he is baiting Cyclops; know he might have to pay a hard price for his outburst. Odysseus lost all of his men but his life was spared. Due to the help from all the gods, father and son eventually met and the reconstruction of the family begun.

Odysseus love for his family and their love for him prevailed. It was like good overcoming evil. The good being the gods that protect and guide him, and the evil represented by Poseidon and those that obstruct his journey back home. His son, Telemachus also learned from his journey. By the time he returned home, he became a man.

Hurtado vs. California

Facts

Help with essay on Test of a Man

The state of California constitution charged a felony to Hurtado strictly based upon information. Hurtado was prosecuted and convicted for murder by the district attorney of California. The defendant then argued that such a conviction goes against the Due Process Clause of the 14th amendment which requires a grand jury investigation.

Legal Question (s) and Answer

(1) Can a person be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime? No

() May a state enforce any law that can jeopardize the privileges of citizens of the United States? No

Opinion of the Court (by Chief Justice SHAW)

The fundamental laws of the states that were first introduced into the Constitution to regulate the powers of the state now limit the government. They are now added for the security of individuals against oppression by the states themselves. Such institutions include grand juries. This allows the accusers of such crimes fair treatment so that they may not be harassed under the due process of law.

Rule of Law ("Precedent Statement")

The argument was overruled by the Supreme Court and the acknowledgement was granted that the state of California did not violate any due process rules.

Palko vs. Connecticut

Facts

Palko was indicted in Connecticut for the charge of murder in the first degree. The jury then found him guilty of murder in the second degree and sentenced him to life imprisonment. In the second trial more evidence was submitted and the verdict of the first degree murder was returned to Palko instead of life imprisonment, therefore he was then sentenced to death again. Palko then appealed the court under the fact that his rights were being violated under the due process clause of the 14th amendment. The 14th amendment clearly states that double jeopardy can not happen in a court of law.

Legal Question (s) and Answer

(1) Is the appellant, by the new trial and subsequent sentence to death, deprived of due process under the Fourteenth Amendment? No

Opinion of the Court (by Chief Justice Black)

The legislative history of the 14th Amendment shows that it was intended to make all the Bill of Rights applicable to all the states. Not to have some objective flexible test of necessary to liberty and fundamental test decide what is right and wrong. This natural law test violates the Constitution in that it gives the courts, at the expense of the legislatures, ultimate power over public powers in fields where no specific constitutional provision provides such power. Therefore it should be abandoned. But liberty is important and one can see how it can be taken for granted and even though you may be right and the other side is wrong, I will have to take whatever is offered to me in order to survive.

Adamson vs. California

Facts

The appellant, Adamson, who is a citizen of the United States, was convicted by a court of law of murder in the first degree. Adamson was told not to testify by his prosecutor, which was in accordance with the state of California. The appellant, who has been involved in prior convictions, has the right to either speak upon his convictions or not too, withholding the information so that it may not affect his outcome from the case at hand. Adamson quickly brought up the Fifth Amendment which says that no person shall be made in a criminal case to be a witness against himself.

Legal Question (s) and Answer

Is a defendants Fifth Amendment right not to bear witness against himself applicable in state courts and protected by the 14th Amendments due process clause? Yes

Opinion of the Court (by Chief Justice Reed)

The court argues that the 14th Amendment did not extend carte blanche all the immunities and privileges of the first 10 Amendments to individuals at the state levels. After so much time spent on arguing whether or not this was a correct way of going about making a decision, the court investigated the 14th Amendment's history. Also, an argument for the absolute and complete application of the Bill of Rights to the states was recommended. After declaring that state and national citizenship co- exist in the same person, the Fourteenth Amendment forbids a state from abridging the privileges and immunities of citizens of the United States. As a matter of words, this leaves a state free to abridge, within the limits of the due process clause, the privileges and immunities flowing from state citizenship. The court did share that they gave less attention to the 14th Amendment than those that actually had a hand in writing it.

Order your French Revolution paper at affordable prices with cheap essay writing service! The ideals of the French Revolution continued to inspire demands for reform in France. Instigated by the middle and working class, a new era of revolutions arose throughout Europe. The united front pushed forward by the middle and working disrupted the status quo created by the Congress of Vienna. Metternich the presiding leader of the Congress of Vienna said, " When France sneezes, Europe catches cold." That was the case, for the revolutions of 180 and 1848 in France ignited forces of liberalism and nationalism in other parts of Europe.

One of the many revolutions that transpired in France from 180-1848 was the July Revolution. At this time Charles X ruled France. Charles a tactless obdurate man abused his power and called for a new election in 180 after the legislature refused to pass laws restricting individual freedom. The result of the election was quite surprising for it favored the middle class liberals and not Charles. In trepidation Charles passed the July Ordinances, which dissolved the legislature, ended freedom of press, and restricted voting rights. Irate workers, university students, and middle class liberals stirred a massive revolt that drove Charles out of France. Nonetheless the outcome of this revolution proved to be a failure when the middle class liberals ignored the protests of the everyday citizen. Preceding the abdication of Charles the middle class liberals formed a constitutional monarchy ruled by Louis Philippe the cousin of Charles X. Louis Philippe was known as the "bourgeois monarch" and stood for the image of the middle class. Even though the monarchy prospered many citizens felt betrayed by the July Revolution because they had not received the right to vote. This middle class' unwitting attitude caused a series of grievances that would ultimately led to the revolution of 1848.

During Louis Philippe's reign an innovative political theory called socialism was rapidly growing. Under Socialism, society as whole rather than private individuals would own all property and all businesses, therefore protecting the interests of the working class. When Louis Philippe rejected the demands of the socialists the revolution of 1848 arose. Francois Guizot the king's chief minister exacerbated the problem when he cancelled a public banquet in fear of an uprising. Thousands fled to the streets and began to shout "Down with Guizot." Louis quickly responded and dismissed Guizot. Even so the workers did not relent and in time drove Louis Philippe out of France. The result of this revolution proved to be a success for it established the Second Republic. The Second Republic led by the stout socialist Louis Blanc established national workshops, which provided jobs for the unemployed. The Second Republic also created a constitution that guaranteed liberty and established an elected legislature and president. The constitution also provided for universal male suffrage that assured all adult men the right to vote. The president elect of the Second Republic was Louis Napoleon who can be considered another success of the revolution of 1848 because as leader he encouraged trade, promised jobs, defended property rights, and supported the Roman Catholic Church. By gratifying the populace of France Louis Napoleon established a dictatorship. A year later he assumed the title Napoleon III and established the Second Empire. At the same time the revolution of 1848 can be considered a failure. When taxes were increased to fund the national workshops the middle class and peasants became infuriated. Because the middle class controlled the National Assembly the national workshops were abolished. This caused a clash between workers and French troops that left 10,000 people dead.

The revolution of 1848 in France inspired German liberals to demand reform. The middle class and workers ignited the revolution of 1848, which arose in Berlin after a demonstration was provoked into a noxious riot. The result of this revolution created tension between the Fredrick William and the National Assembly who had opposing ideas on the constitution. Fredrick William ended up eliminating the National Assembly replacing its constitution with his own. This revolution can be considered a failure because the goal of the revolution, which was to unify Germany, failed. Another example of this revolution's failure was when Frederick William IV refused the crown given to him by the Frankfurt Parliament. Frederick William IV disbanded the Frankfurt Parliament ending any attempt of unification.

Write my Essay on French Revolution cheap

For the most part the revolutions of 180 and 1848 had few successes. The reasons for failure were that many movements lacked unity and clear goals. There was also a deep division between the middle class liberals, who wanted moderate change, and the working class, who demanded radical change causing a difference of belief. Along with this, the conservatives held a well-built position that was strong enough to withstand revolutionary movements, therefore creating a loss cause. Revolutions may have valid means but what they accomplish is somewhat of a mystery.

Order your theme of cruelty in twelfth night paper at affordable prices with cheap essay writing service! Cruelty of men

Cruelty of men is expressed in many ways through different characters. In "Twelfth Night", we find that many characters do possess a sort of cruelty in them and this cruelty changes from something seething within them into something which they inflict tremendously on others, in particular, Malvolio. Despite Twelfth Night being a comedy, dark humour does prevail in this play, and ends in hideous cruelty shown towards Malvolio.

There is a reference of cruelty within the character of Olivia. Olivia is described by Orsino as "fair cruelty" and "sovereign cruelty". Orsino must have felt mistreated and unjustified in receiving unrequited love from Olivia, and thus labelled her as a cruelty. It is also evident that Olivia seems to hold herself in high regard and thinks Orsino unworthy of her love.

Orsino himself, is infatuated, and it is his deep love for Olivia that makes him capable of committing violent deeds as well. When he realizes finally that Olivia will not marry him, he is willing to inflict all cruelty on his most loyal servant Cesario and "sacrifice the lamb that [he] loves"

Do my essay on theme of cruelty in twelfth night CHEAP !

Sir Toby, in asking Sir Andrew to stay and through that eventually inflicting emotional hurt on him, is cruel. The only reason he wanted Sir Andrew to stay was so that he could enjoy the pleasures and revelry that Sir Andrew's money would allow him to indulge in. Knowing Sir Andrew's weakness and gullibility, and that he is "excellently ignorant", Sir Toby takes advantage of that and convinces him to stay under the pretense of raising his hope of winning the love of Olivia.

Sir Toby also finds great entertainment in forcing Sir Andrew and Viola to fight. He hopes through this to see both parties awfully scared like "cockatrices", and this somehow provides a source of amusement for him.

Another instance of the potential of dreadful cruelty within Sir Toby is the "gulling" of Malvolio. Together with Maria, Sir Andrew and Fabian, this group of friends come together with a plan which exploits Malvolio's blindness and self-infatuation, to provide a "joke" for them to laugh at, by embarrassing him and causing him to lose all dignity. They never once considered the pain that might be meted out on Malvolio, but instead only focus on vengeance on Malvolio for his ticking them off. It is also Sir Toby's idea to keep in "a dark room and bound". With this cruel action, Sir Toby proves himself to be a man of the most scheming, nasty and unsympathetic character, with a dark twist to the source of his laughter and enjoyment in life.

Also involved in the gulling of Malvolio is Feste the fool, who under the disguise of Sir Topas, tries to confuse Malvolio and persuade him of his madness, by saying that the dark room that Malvolio is locked in, is "bright". Using the disguise of a priest, Feste jumps from role to role, and bathes in the twisted happiness he gains from the gullibility of Malvolio. Feste remains hard-hearted and refuses to get what Malvolio wants "pen and paper". Thus through this incident, the dark side and cruelty of Feste, which was triggered by the extended and repeated incidents of cold exchanges between them both, is seen as well.

Conclusively, we see that cruelty exists in the hearts of many characters in "Twelfth Night", and as a result, characters suffer from this cruelty when it is unrelentlessly inflicted on them.

James West Davidson and Mark Hamilton Lytles' "From Rosie to Lucy" is a piece written to show the feminine viewpoint regarding women's role in life after World War II. Thought I feel that equality is an important issue, I also feel that Betty Frieden and other feminists may have been a bit neurotic about pointing out blame.

During World World I while the men were away fighting for the United States, women were forced to take a stand in the working world. After the world, women more-or-less went back to their original habits and men resided over their previous jobs. Betty Frieden thought this backwards-step was horrifying and "thought there was something wrong with me because I didn't have an orgasm waxing the kitchen floor" (1). I feel that Frieden had every right to have strong feelings about the restraints she felt on her by the male population, but I don't feel that every women felt that specific way. "Surveys showed that Americans, whether male or female, continued to believe that child rearing was a woman's primary job" (1). Frieden would argue this point by saying that commercials and other forms of mass media forced women to feel this way, but I believe that many women "wanted" to stay home and raise children. Women had the opportunity to work and if they wanted to take fulfill that option, they could. If they didn't want to, they didn't have to. This is shown by the following quote "Some .5 million women did voluntarily return home after the war and another million were laid off by 146. At the same time, .75 million women entered the job market by 147, leaving a net loss of only half a million." (1).

I think all the feminists during the WWII era and beyond had women's equality at the top of their priority list, I just think they might have grouped "majorities" together and "forced" things to look more grim than they actually were. Mass media does have an influential part on our daily lives by persuading our personal opinions greatly. But altogether, women "did" work during the war and "did" work afterwards. I'm sorry if Betty Frieden took it all too personally, I thank her for getting "the message" out there to the public, I venture to say she took feminism one step too far.

This thrilling book had two main plot lines. They were separated by part one and part two. The first part was a mystery and it had a lot of suspense, and the second part was mainly based on a court trial.

In the first half Harper Lee tries to keep us in suspense. She first explained where it took place, and who the characters were. "Maycomb was an old town, but it was a tired old town when I first knew it. In rainy weather the streets turned to red slop; grass grew on the sidewalks and the courthouse sagged in the square." (Lee 5) "Set during the depression, the story is recalled from the distance of maturity by Jean Louise ("Scout") Finch, whose widowed father, Atticus, was a civilized tolerant lawyer in a backward Alabama town and a brother Jem." (Lemay 1) Jem and Scout try many different things to get Boo Radley to come out of his house, because no one has ever seen him before. Dill, one of their friends, views Boo as a turtle. He says you have to stick a lighted match under a turtles belly and he will come out. In the same way they needed to find ways to get Boo to come out. "First of all," he said, "if you can learn a simple trick, Scout, you'll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view." (Lee 0)

Harper Lee tries to combine two themes of southern fiction. The recollection of child hood, which describes the children, and how they play their games and get into trouble. That is what child hood is about. "And they watch with dismay and pain as the adult world betrays them." (Lemay ) The other part she tries to combine with it is how civilized white southerners treat Negroes.

Custom writing service can write essays on west nile

The second part is more interesting because it talks more about the case trial and the racism that is going on at the time. Racism is when people judge other cultures. Like blacks, Mexicans, and other religions. They do not like the way they look. In this story most of the people are racist against the black man. Many people are racist and they do not even realize it. Harper Lee states in the story, "We're so rarely called upon to be Christians, but when we are, we've got men like Atticus to go for us" (Lee 15) We all should have an attitude like Atticus.

These two parts of the book, do not really fit together well because the one part is about child hood and the other is about adult hood. That is what makes it interesting to some people. It is not like all the other books. This book did not flow together. It had its own characteristics. This one has its own fashion.

In the second half of the novel Atticus decides to defend an African American by the name of Tom Robinson. Tom was accused of raping a young white girl. "I shall be brief, but I would like to use my remaining time with you to remind you that this case is not a difficult one, … To begin with, this case should never have come to trial. This case is as simple as black and white" (Lee 0) She is trying to tell us that the court case shouldn't be judged upon knowing that Tom is a black man. They should treat him just the same as every other man. The jury went out and made their decisions. "When they arrived I shut my eyes. Judge Taylor was polling the jury Guilty…guilty…guilty…guilty …" (Lee 11) So Tom Robinson was charged guilty. Tom Robinson may have died, but Atticus sure did not give up or fail in any other way. He had faith in Tom. The case was through and things had started to go back to normal, until the night of the school play, when Bob Ewell attacked Jem and Scout. "This was not good enough for Jem. "No sir, they oughta do away with juries. He wasn't guilty in the first place and they said he was." (Lee 0) Heck Tate was the sheriff who was called when this attack happened. "I'm not a very good man, sir, but I am sheriff of Maycomb County…There's a black boy dead for no reason, and the man responsible for it's dead. Let the dead bury the dead this time, Mr. Finch. Let the dead bury the dead." (Lee 75-76)

Part two shows true adolescence by all the characters. Atticus was a great example not only the children but to the whole town. " To my way of thinkin', Mr. Finch, taking the one man who's done you and this town a great service an' draggin' him with his shy ways into limelight- to me, that's a sin." (Lee 76)

Harper Lee makes this story very unique and interesting. There is not a dull moment in the book. It is a thriller. In the Critical View chosen, there was an agreement with the author, because the book was poorly combined together. Racism was a good thing to add to this book. Many people do not realize they are hurting other people when they do not involve them in other activities just because they are a different race. Racism has a powerful meaning.

"The two worlds remain solitary in spite of Miss Lee's grace of writing and honorable decency of intent." (Lemay ) As for myself, reading is not a hobby worth looking forward to, but this book was enjoyable to read. The suspense kept it going, and it was worth reading. Finding myself agreeing with this author about the book was spontaneous. Everything he said was the same thing my own words came up with. This was an excellent view point to agree with.
