Walt Whitman is known as one of America's greatest poets. It was the very ordinance of his life that gave him the material from which he constructed his masterpiece, Leaves of Grass. Many events in Whitman's life helped shape a number of his writings. He reflected on his own personal experiences through his poetry. Thus, using the influences from the experiences of his life, Walt Whitman produced a new type of poetry by mixing realistic detail with his idealistic notions about American and democracy.

Through his poetry, Whitman was able to reflect on some of his life experiences. He was also able to use some of his experiences throughout his life to help shape him as a writer. As a young boy, Whitman worked as a newspaper editor. He chose to work with newspapers because he knew that they were an important institution in the development of America. His experiences of working with newspaper helped him later on as a writer. Walt Whitman was born in Long Island, New York. He used his favorite landscape, The Long Island Shore, in his poem, "Out of the Cradle Endlessly Rocking." Also, one of his poems was named, "Starting from Paumanok." This was the Native American name of Long Island. Many can see, through Whitman's works, that he was deeply influenced by his life experiences. He enjoyed writing about events in his life and this became a major theme of his. An event in Whitman's life that helped shape a number of his poems was the Civil War. He volunteered as a nurse in the war hospitals. This gave him a unique perspective on the war. He was inspired to write a book of poems, "Drum-Taps," which was about the devastating effects of the war and his hopes for national reconciliation. Another influence on Whitman's writing was the death of President Abraham Lincoln. The poem, "O Captain! My Captain!" was about the assassination, and another poem, "When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloom'd," was a reflection of Lincoln's death. In this poem, Whitman says that each spring the blooming lilac will remind him not only of the death of Lincoln, but also the eternal return to life. The evening star, Venus, symbolizes Lincoln, who has "droop'd in the western sky" (Whitman, Leaves 0). Another influence on the writings of Whitman was his Quaker background. "From his Quaker heritage, he takes an underlying humanitarianism and mysticism" (Metzler 6). Echoing the psalms in the Bible, one can see that that the Bible also had an impact on Whitman's writings. It is very evident that the experiences Whitman faced throughout his life deeply impacted his writing.

In a USA Today Science article entitled, "Genetically-Modified Monkey Created," writer Steve Sternberg reports that scientists have created the world's first mutant monkey. Although this article is dated back to January 11, 001, this information is a bit surprising to me. I have chosen this article for this reason. The world of genetics never ceases to amaze me. From Mendel's work with peas to sheep cloning, I've always been fascinated with what science will produce next.

The rhesus monkey created by the scientists at the Oregon Regional Primate Research Center is name ANDi, short for "inserted DNA" spelled backwards. The most interesting thing about ANDi is that he has an extra gene that glows green when seen under a microscope. The scientists created ANDi to study human diseases and possibly find a cure. However, I'm not sure how implanting an extra gene into a primate would lead researchers to curing certain diseases.

Creating ANDi was no easy task. Two hundred twenty four eggs were fertilized but there were only 40 embryos generated. The embryos were introduced into twenty surrogates and only five got pregnant. Out of these pregnancies, only three resulted in the birth of healthy males, with only one [ANDi] showing the marker gene.

As in everything, there were people who were pessimistic about the research. Some people felt that the inserted gene would disrupt the monkey's natural way of function. They also felt that it might not even mimic human diseases. On the other hand, there were people who supported the study. Take John Gordon, who in 180 created the first genetically engineered mouse, for example. He stated that, "Primates could model certain diseases for which no other model is suitable…." He says that using altered monkeys as opposed to mice can help with Alzheimer's because researchers are able to study the monkey's cognitive problems.

Custom Essays on Genetically-Modified Monkey Created I think that using a monkey to test diseases is ridiculous. I'm very against animal testing for the benefit of the human race. I feel that animals are god created beings just as we are. Just because we are higher in the food chain, we do not have the right to do as we please with anything below us. I think that it's highly immoral and that it should stop. I feel really bad for the unsuccessful fertilizations where the monkeys didn't make it into the world. There might have been deformalities where the ones that did born may be suffering such as missing limbs or lack of pigmentation. I think that scientists shouldn't play God with it's creatures.

I felt that this article is very informative and interesting. To be able to create a mutant creature seems almost impossible yet, scientists have been able to do so. Who knows what science will produce next?

In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. Abraham Lincoln was born Sunday, February 1, 180, in a log cabin near Hodgenville, Kentucky. He was the son of Thomas and Nancy Hanks Lincoln, and he was named for his paternal grandfather. Thomas Lincoln was a carpenter and farmer. Both of Abrahams parents were members of a Baptist congregation which had separated from another church due to opposition to slavery.

Abraham Lincoln, the son of a farmer, was born near Hodgenville, Kentucky, on 1th February 180. Although his parents were virtually illiterate, and he spent only a year at school, he developed a love of reading. In March 180, the Lincoln family moved to Illinois. After helping his father clear and fence his fathers new farm, Lincoln moved to New Salem, where he worked as a storekeeper, postmaster and surveyor.

Abraham Lincoln, from the backwoods of Hodgenville Kentucky, rose to become one of the greatest presidents of the United States. During his attempt to keep the Union in the Civil War, he gained more power and authority than any president before him. A excellent politician, Lincoln was always looked upon for leadership for he put reason and thoughtful decisions behind his word.

Adolf Hitler, a charismatic, Austrian-born demagogue, rose to power in Germany during the 10s and early 10s at a time of social, political, and economic upheaval. Failing to take power by force in 1, he eventually won power by democratic means.

In this essay I will describe the civilizations of Africa and the New World. I will show how these great civilizations were alike and how they were not. The Africans and the Indians were alike in their rise to greatness, each achieving it through conquest. They were also alike in their means of survival; all were agricultural peoples. These two cultures both experienced tremendous wealth and all were a model for civilizations to come.

What if you could end starvation, help a parent of a child who is dying from a fatal disease like multiple sclerosis, or even create independent organs from a single tohelp diseased person cloning can make these ideals possible.

purpose of my speech is to ppersuade genetic engineering and cloning research should not be banned. history of clonning began inthe early fifties and sixties to help find a cure for many disease instead they found that it caused many decects and mutations of genes. many religios leader will argue that ther is a moral issue behind this because only God can give life and take it away and who are we to play around with life, the reason some think that cloning would be a benifit to human life is because it will help cure cancers and othe dibilitating disease. I feel that progress and advancement is good for the human population. the problem regarding the science of genetic engineering and cloning is tha our perception of the subject are inaccurate because of misconceptions of the media. foe example the movie jurassic park species escaped and caused havoc hollywood and the media represent cloning as scary to science fiction. based on the book cloning fronteirs of genetic enginerring by Dacvid Jeferies cloning began long ago but has only come to the worlds attention within the past few years. Try to visualize what parents of a dying child would benifit do they think it is morally wrong? they would thingk it is morally right to save this childs life. not to long ago americans viewed artifical insemination as discusting heart transplants were scorned and x-rays were considered witch craft today we do not think twice about babies being born in a test tube.imagin a future when bioengineers will be able to replace a cancer or defective gene with a gene that does not have a error or defective code organ transplant list would be no more this is much better in waiting on the grim hope of someone dying every scince the begining of science man has been afraid of the unknown space travling and flying had not been fully accepted until the 0th century we should realize the possibilities the evolution of science for future generations

Fantasy is one of human's instinctive weaknesses. People usually choose to dwell in the fantasy world that they created when reality is not conducive to their emotional well-being. In the play "A Streetcar Named Desire", author Tennessee Williams wholly described the fantasy of a woman, Blanche Dubois. Blanche is a mid-aged woman who chooses fantasy rather than to accept reality. She was fired from the high school in Laurel where she was teaching because of the affair she had with a 17-year-old boy. She moved into a second-class hotel called Flamingo in where she had intimacies with strangers to fill her empty heart. After getting kicked out of the hotel, she paid a visit to her sister Stella and brother-in-law Stanley Kowalski in New Orleans, where she prpesented her whole fantasy world to the townsfolk. On her arrival, upon the belief that she's still a high scholl English teacher, she told Stella her first lie that the high school superintendent suggested her take off. In order to hint Stella and Stanley that she is actually much more than she seem to be, she acted shocked with her sister's living condition and delivered some sarcasm about the way her sister dresses. She makes efforts to give people the impression that she's' innocent, young, beautiful, well-educated and of upper class. Demonstrated as she asked Stella in scene one, "You messy child, you, you've spilt something on that pretty white lace collar! About your hairyou ought to have it cut in a feather bob with your dainty features. Stella, you have a maid, don't you?" to which Stella replied "No. with only two rooms it's" Blanche said it to make her sister believe that she has a maid back in Laurel, but it's just her fantasy. She has brilliant ways of making fantasy seem like reality. "They told me to take a streetcar named desire, and then transfer to on called Cemeteries…" here it's not hard to tell what Tennessee Williams is trying to say under the line.

Dracula Feminism

Dracula was written By Bram Stoker in 187. The story takes place in the 1th century, the Victorian era. Victorian women were all expected to act and socialize a certain way. All women were supposed to be pure and serve men. Once they were married they were to be motherly and nurturing. However, during this time Feminism was beginning to be introduced; it was not called feminism then they were called new women. The new women were mostly viewed as masculine. The stereotypical new woman had short hair and wore masculine clothing. They also participated in masculine habits, such as smoking cigars and riding bicycles. The novel, Dracula, plays with the idea of gender roles in the 1th century. Lucy Westenra and Mina Murray are the main focus of the gender confusion. When Dracula punctures the women, a trance comes over them. Instead of being the normal feminine women that they were, they begin to act more masculine. They try to "seduce" men and act very voluptuous. This is more apparent in Lucy than in Mina. Dracula was able to get in Lucy more than he was able to get to Mina. Lucy ended up going after children. Once Van Hesling, Jonathan Harker, John Seward, Authur Holmwood, and Quincy Morris caught view of that they knew that they had to put an end to her. She was acting completely opposite of how an English Victorian woman was suppose to behave. They drove a stake through her heart, put garlic in her mouth and cut her head off. Mina was more fortunate that the men were able to get a hold of Dracula before he got to her. She was not as big as a threat as Lucy. Before Lucy was even put in a trance by Dracula, she was already beginning to go against what the typical "normal" English woman was like. She had received three proposals and said that she wished she could marry all three. Lucy was also very beautiful and enticing. Mina was just about the perfect woman. She was learning how to type as well as short hand in order to help her husband.

Bram Stoker does a good job at being loyal to the values of the English. At the end of the book he makes everything as it should be. The men conquered the evil Dracula and put an end to Lucy acting masculine and voluptuous. Once Dracula was killed Mina recovered and returned to her normal perfect womanhood. Jonathan and Mina ended up marrying each other and having a son. They were a role-model of how families were supposed to be.

I believe that Stoker felt a need to demonstrate how things should be. It seems that he must have been against the "new women." Stoker wanted things to be how they always were. He wrote a novel that was interesting to read, yet that voiced his opinion on how England should be.

Custom Essays on Dracula It seemed to be clever in the fact that he showed the other side of new women. He did not just come out straight forward and talk about the new women or about the "normal" English woman. Readers were expected to get the message by reading in between the lines. Stoker showed how things were going disguising and how they ought to be. It was a well written novel that made its message clear.

WASHINGTON (Nov. 1) - Supreme Court justices with an average age of nearly 70 wrangled Wednesday over whether workers in their 40s can sue employers for offering better benefits to older colleagues, a type of reverse age discrimination.

It already is clear that people over 40 can sue under a federal age discrimination law when younger colleagues get preferential treatment because of age. Justices will resolve before next summer whether workers over 40 can sue when older employees get better treatment such as cheaper health care or choice work hours.

Some justices joked about their own senior citizen status, but then more seriously focused on company efforts to help older workers stay on the job longer. Many seemed skeptical of allowing the reverse discrimination lawsuits.

Justice Antonin Scalia warned that if the midcareer workers win in this appeal, a law meant to aid older workers ... ends up harming them, a very strange consequence of this legislation.

About 00 General Dynamics Corp. workers in Ohio and Pennsylvania brought the case, claiming they were discriminated against because they were too young to get benefits being offered to older colleagues.

An appeals court ruled that they could sue under the 167 Age Discrimination in Employment Act. Some 70 million U.S. workers, about half of the nations work force, are at least 40

Many of our decisions are simple, like deciding on what clothes to wear, or what you would like for dinner. Other decisions are complicated or complex, like purchasing a new car or home. In my opinion, critical thinking is about knowing your own strengths and weaknesses in order to make good decisions. I also feel that the foundation of critical thinking involves asking the right questions, and taking responsibility for any judgments I make. This is how critical thinking ties into decision making, because from asking the right questions, you are able to filter the information before making decisions that may assist you personally, and professionally. Everything we do in life is determined by the quality of our thinking and the decisions that we make.

A few of the benefits of critical thinkers are they are good questioners. They make sure they ask the right questions to get the right answers in order to make a reasonable decision. Critical thinkers also listen before making any judgments. Then they sort out the information and ask questions regarding the problem, rather than jump to conclusions or make assumptions.

Decision-making and problem solving are the very core of my position as a Physician Coordinator at Group Health. Some of my duties consist of making sure all enrollees have physicians, and updating our physician resources on the web. The web information I update needs to be done in a timely manner, in order for our company to operate and be updated on the status of our doctors. All the questions and answers regarding physicians are in the palm of my hands.

"Developing critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills allow us to see all sides of an issue, look for creative alternatives and make well-thought out decisions. We all make decisions every day. However, studies have shown that most people are much poorer at decision making than they think. An understanding of what decision-making involves, together with a few effective techniques, will help produce better decisions." (Unknown, 00)

Factors that Influence the Selection of Fuel Substrates During Exercise

Fuel substrates for producing energy in the body are carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Carbohydrates and fats are the primary fuel substrates in the selection for producing energy. Only % and no more than 15% during the final minutes of a prolonged exercise are contributed by proteins. Several factors influence the selection of fuel substrates which includes the type of diet of the individual, the intensity of the exercise, and the duration of the exercise.

Individuals who eat a high-fat and low-carbohydrate diet will have a higher rate of fat metabolism. A high-carbohydrate and low-fat diet will produce a higher rate of carbohydrate metabolism in the individual. A high-protein no-carbohydrate diet can cause health problems because essential amino acids are broken down as fuel.

Custom Essays on Factors that Influence the Selection of Fuel Substrates During Exercise

Fats are the primary fuel source for muscle during low-intensity exercises. An example would be an exercise of walking using less than 0% VO max. As the exercise increases in intensity, there is a steady increase in carbohydrate metabolism and a decrease in fat metabolism. Eventually there is a crossover to carbohydrates for use as the primary fuel substrate instead of fats. This crossover occurs somewhere around an exercise with a Vo max of 5%.

Two main factors that cause this shift from using fats as a primary fuel source to carbohydrates are the recruitment of fast twitch fibers in the muscle and increasing levels of epinephrine in the blood. The fast fibers in the muscle have more glycolytic enzymes than lipolytic enzymes. Because glycolysis requires carbohydrates as the fuel source and lipolysis uses fats, the fast fibers are better suited to break down carbohydrates. Higher levels of epinephrine stimulate the enzyme phosphorylase which causes an increase in glycogenolysis and glycolysis. An increase in glycolysis raises lactate levels which inhibits lypolysis. Since there are more carbohydrates, there is less fat metabolism.

During prolonged exercises approximately greater than 0-0 minutes, there is a gradual shift from carbohydrate metabolism to an increased rate of fat metabolism. Lipolysis is the process that breaks down fat molecules or triglycerides into free fatty acids and glycerol by the enzyme lipase. These lipase enzymes are inactive until there is an increase in certain hormones such as epinephrine, norepinephrine, and glucagon. These hormones stimulate the lipase enzymes which increases lipolysis. Lipolysis increases free fatty acid levels in the blood and muscles which promotes fat metabolism. Since lipolysis is a slow process, this will only occur after several minutes of a prolonged low-intensity exercise. There is also a decrease in insulin which inhibits mobilization of FFA. By decreasing the level of insulin, lipolysis can speed up and FFA can increase.

In conclusion, the body contains proteins, carbohydrates, and fats which are used as fuel substrates for producing energy. Proteins contribute a small percentage of the fuel supply, approximately %, and only 15% during the final minutes of a prolonged exercise. Primary fuel substrates are carbohydrates and fats. Factors influencing fuel selection include the type of diet of the individual, the intensity of the exercise, and the duration of the exercise.

• German botanist, Schleiden cells compose not only the stems and roots but every part of a plant

• German zoologist, Schwann - made same claim about animals

• German physician, Virchow observed that cells come only from other cells

. What function do organelles serve?

• Eukaryotic cells possess organelles

• Their small, specific membrane-bound internal compartments, that carry out specific functions in the cell.

. Explain why cells must be small.

• limits that affect how efficiently cells work and that govern cell size.

• One is related to the exchange between the inside and the outside of the cell.

- All info and materials entering or leaving the cell must pass through

"doors" in the cell membrane. The efficiency of this exchange depends on the ratio of the cell's surface area to its volume.

- Large cells have far less membrane surface per unit of volume with which

to supply materials to the cells interior and to rid it of wastes.

• The other reason is that as the cell size increases, it takes longer for information and materials to reach their destination.

• SMALL CELLS ARE MORE EFFICIENT THAN LARGER CELLS.

4. Explain prokaryotes and eukaryotes.

• Prokaryotic cells are single-celled organisms that lack internal membrane-bound compartments.

Period 1 Art 1

Alexandra is a child prodigy which means shes very skilled at what she does. She is a artist and is one of the best and youngest which is whats so crazy about it. Shes younger then I am and shes making millions of dollars for her paintings she makes so shes basically set for her entire life and shes still in High School. Alexandra is 17 now and is already a millionaire and it all started from crayons like all little kids do when they are younger.

Alexandra and her parents came from Romania when she was very very young. They moved from Romania in 185 with his wife Viorica and made it to California in 187 . She started using pen and ink when she was only two years old thats very advanced for a two year old, most two year olds cant even draw in the lines. When she turned five years old she started using the water colors..which I have a big problem with they are very complicated. She just knows what colors would go with what and how do to it right because water colors are very hard to master, well thats what I think. She went throught stages as she got older and her artwork progressed.

She has a form of painting like Picaso did with abstract art and just with paintings. She used ceramics and clay also to get the abstract form like Picaso, she likes his work very much so you can see why she does that kind of form. One of her paintings called release the peace was sold for $700. Two weeks after it was purchased a couple wanted to pay $5,000 for the painting but it was turned down by the owner. A lot of the paintings have sold for $5,000 to $65,000. She also broke he million dollar level as a artist which usually takes years to do.

Alexandra is still a normal teenager who goes to High School and hangs out with her friends. She does only go to high school three days a week so there is one difference and she chose painting over sports in high school. She only goes to school for days a week because she needs time to do her artwork because basically its her career already. Basically she has a very nice life set up for her and hoe she does well.

Leadership Styles and Strategic Planning

Carol Marion Cook

May 1, 00

How can a leader suddenly share power to become collaborative in decision-making? Is there any substantive difference between a leader who practices authoritarian leadership and one who practices transformative leadership? The research shows an identifiable difference between authoritarian and transformative leadership. These differences center on the way leaders define and use power.

Write my Essay on assessment

Cryss Brunner (17) quoted power as the ability to get things done with other people. It is viewed as a process in which power holders possess certain motives and goals, having the capacity to secure changes in the behavior of a respondent, human or animal, and in the environment, by utilizing resources in their power base, including factors of skill, relative to the targets of their power-wielding and necessary to secure such changes (Burns,176). This view of power deals with a relationship among all of the following the motives and resources of power holders and the motives and resources of power recipients.

If power is viewed as one in which the power holders possess certain motives and resources, the relationship is transactional. These leaders approach followers to exchange one thing for another, contingent reinforcement. This leader is authoritarian and practices top-down leadership. The strategic plan is something he/she will construct and give to the employees. These employees will not know their mission statement or their exact job responsibilities because of this.

If the power holder does the later, looks for motives and resources of power recipients, he/she is a transforming leader. The transforming leader seeks to satisfy higher needs and engages the full person of the follower. This type of leader should engage their followers in the planning process if they want them to understand and make sense out of their job. After all, the strategic plan is a public declaration of the organization's heart and soul. Followers are empowered who participate in the process. The motives and resources of the stakeholders should be acknowledged in the strategic plan, specifically noted in the mission statement. The result of this leadership style is a relationship of mutual stimulation and elevation that converts followers into leaders and may convert leaders into moral agents. These leaders have realized that power is the ability to work with other players for the good of all.

In order for transformational leadership to be "authentic" it must incorporate a central core of moral values. This leadership style is defined first, as the leaders and led have a relationship not only of power but of mutual needs, aspirations, and values; second as the followers have adequate knowledge of alternative leaders and programs and the capacity to choose among those alternatives; and third that leaders take responsibility for their commitments. These leaders can produce social change that will satisfy the followers' authentic needs. These leaders have developed a relationship of elevation with the followers causing them to become more active. These followers will actively participate in the strategic planning process with enthusiasm, commitment and dedication.

The best of leadership is both transactional and transformational. Transformational leadership augments the effectiveness of transactional leadership it does not replace transactional leadership. (Waldman, Bass & Yammarino, 10). Both practices are complimentary. Transactional practices get the day-to-day routines carried out without stimulating improvement. However, transformational leadership provides the incentive for people to attempt improvements in their practices.

I think that preventive detention is a good plan to keep criminals off the streets. People may argue that it is unfair to keep some one in prison not for a crime but for things they might do when they get out. For example, Lets say that there is a prisoner in jail who is a career inmate. He has been in and out of jail for raping young women. He is a threat to society he should be kept in prison so that he doesn't hurt anyone else. If he was to be sent back out into society excuse my French but he should be castrated so that he couldn't rape young women anymore. Along with this he should be examined psychologically too see if he could even function in society. The way that I see career criminals is like a dog once it gets the taste of blood from a chicken it can never go back and it will always be craving the blood from a chicken.

If a person is caught and it is his multiple time being convicted of drug trafficking even though he has no past history of violence he should still be put in preventive detention because with him locked up that would be one less drug trafficker out on the street, in result less drugs on the streets. I think that a person who is just exposing himself to women not causing harm to them is not really a risk to society. So what he likes to show off a little bit as long as he's not hurting any one "streak on". Some one who is convicted of multiple white-collar crimes such as cheating on their income taxes, he is not really hurting society he's just sticking it to Uncle Sam. The IRS should keep him under close surveillance and not keep him locked up in jail.

My whole view on preventive detention is if you are harming society you should be put in jail and have them throw away the key. But if you are in there for non harmful activity you should be released but still be under close supervision.

weather it be stoning shooting or hanging.

History of Accounting

This paper will inform you on the history of Accounting, from the beginning to the present. Even how the idea of Accounting came into existence and how it's changed throughout time to become one of today's mainstream jobs for the workplace.

Accounting is one of the oldest professions that there is. In fact, since prehistoric times families had to account for food and clothing. The first record of currency began with tokens in shapes to symbolize certain commodities such as grain, and other items people needed for everyday living. These methods were used for over 5000 years, before the first writings were found. Evidence of accounting records can be found in the Babylonian Empire (4500 B.C), in pharaohs Egypt and in the Code of Hammurabi (50 B.C). Eventually, keeping records became a necessity for governments to sustain social order.

Now, it is the time of the Renaissance and the accomplishments of man are coming to new heights. This is when a man, by the name of Fra Luca Pacioli, also known as "The Father of Accounting" would come into play and express his ideas plus his theories on Accounting. Pacioli showed the world that Accounting was one of the most important inventions know to man. Born in 1445, Pacioli was a mathematician, who was also a friend of Leonardo da Vinci. He wrote and taught in many different fields, such as mathematics, theology, architecture, games, military strategy and commerce.

Write your history of accounting research paper

In 144, he wrote a book called "Summa de Arithmetica Gemetria Porportionalita", which was on Arithmetic; but included a section dedicated to the description of Double-Entry Accounting. The book became a major success and was translated from Italian to many other languages. Even through he was not credited for developing the system he was first to publish text on its practice. The system that he used included most of today's accounting routines such as the use of memorandums, journals, and ledgers. He described the year-end, closing entries and proposed that a trial balance be used to prove a balance ledger. There would be little modification to Pacioli's system for the next years. Double-entry Accounting is used to catch errors to accurately track the various streams of money in your business. This made banking reliable, and also enhanced trade and commerce.

By the 1800's, Scotland became the world's leader in modern Accounting. In the lat 1800's, Edinburgh society, followed by other accounting societies in Scotland and England, adopted the title of Chartered Accountant (CA) to identify its members. The first certified Public Accountant (CPA) law was passed in 186 in the state of New York. This law required accountants to pass an examination to become certified. There were no education requirements since most accountant were trained an apprenticeship and not by formal education. The actual exam had very little to do with Accounting, it focused on reading, writing, and arithmetic. By 11 thirty-three states had CPA laws and by 11 all fifty states did.

In 17 the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) was founded. Its goal was to establish standard of financial accounting and reporting. Such standard are important for the creditors, investors, auditor and other people rely on credible and comparable information about their finances and the finances of others. The FASB accomplishes this mission by acting to improve the usefulness of Financial reporting, keep standards current, and promptly consider any faulty areas in methods of financial reporting, promote international accounting standards, and to improve the understanding of the information in financial reports.

Today, computers play an important role in the field of Accounting. Different software types are doing most of accounting applications. Whether an accounting system is manual or computerized, the underlying principles of accounting are the same.

Rasputin

Rasputin, the image alone is pretty horrifying, creepy. This man was able to do the impossible, social escalating isn't very common or easy, especially amidst royal blue blood. The rural man who was Gregory Rasputin no education, no money and no faith; known only as a pervert, criminal and drunken behavior. Born in January of 186, in Siberia to poverty stricken conditions which explains his ambition. Was he evil? Was he a miracle worker? Was his ambition that brought him to manipulate?

He spent his teenage years as a rebel, mainly finding ways to have a good time. He was known to have sexual intercourse with several women, consuming several drugs, not to mention the alcohol. You can say he like the shock affect it gave the people in the rural village. He did the equivalent to what Marilyn Manson does now, worshipped by many and feared by most.

A change was what he wanted; The Russian Orthodox Church's mystery drew him towards spiritually and his future. Studying he found that he had the perfect sect of his new religion, Skopsty The sinner's perfect sect. As part of this he started to abide his life to it, to Skopsty. The sect consisted of committing sin in order to get closer to God. It was also said that Skopsty was to commit sin in order to end sin. Rasputin apparently being the biggest follower, to later adopt the robes of a monk and practice and teach others of it, developed his own self-gratifying doctrines, traveled the country as a staretz which is like the concept of those preachers from the Southern states.

Write your Rasputin research paper

Touring and promoting his sect had made him quite the popular monk. By 10 he was being requested by the clergy in St. Petersburg. He made his first visit which there he recounted tales of his traveling promotion of Skopsty. Several religious leaders caught wave of the heat and decided to take a peek.

Mean while Rasputin was in his prime, the Tsar Nicolas II and his wife Alexandra were expecting their third child. The child was the heir to the empire, which made them quite happy and his name was Alexis in favor of the second Romanov tsar. Suddenly bad news came upon the happy couple; Alexis had a genetic disease, Hemophilia, which if he had been born a hundred years could have been cured with gene therapy. It became apparent after an injury and he did not stop bleeding for some while. A miracle was hoped for.

Prayers from the desperate mother had clouded her mind to do whatever possible for her child, opening for any miracle worker to whom wanted to help. Alexis kept on with off and on with Hemophilia attacks. Rasputin at the time was battling his to restrain his sinner's way. Two years had passed and he had moved prudently in the Russian capitals aristocratic circles and made a name for himself. He had a little following in St. Petersburg and some what an amount of power. He had gained the friendship of The Grand Duchesses and a close friend of Alexandra's.

The Duchesses and Alexandra's friend arranged a meeting for Alexandra and Rasputin. He strangely brought calmness to the Tsar and his wife. Once during one the heir's hemophilic attacks Rasputin was able to control the situation and stop the bleeding. After that the couple kept him around, many people wondered why such a friendship, what was in it for Rasputin? Rumors started that the Royal Couple's daughters had become his sex toys and that he and Alexandra were having an affair. One may never know since both Alexandra's journal and Rasputin did not uncover such allegations. Soon after Rasputin was under suspicion by the Tsar and several people of the Romanov family, death had predestined for all. Rasputin cursed the Tsar's family that within two years they'd all be dead. Grand Duke Dimitri Pavlovich and Prince Felix Youssoupov, husband of Nicholas IIs niece Princess Irina Alexandrovna of Russia, were among the leaders of the plot to strike against Rasputin. They didn't kill though, poison, gunshot and beatings didn't get rid of the monk, he ran and later drowned in the river.

How Schools have Changed

Schools changed in many ways in the last thirty years. One of the major changes is discipline. Discipline is a much greater concern today than it was thirty years ago due to certain issues that did not present a problem back then. Thirty years ago, problems were usually minor, such as chewing gum, talking without permission and not doing homework. Today, problems in schools are a much greater and serious issue. The greatest concerns now are the increasing acts of violence and drugs. In addition to discipline problems, teachers also face increasing amounts of paperwork and keeping records on their students. The emphasis placed on standardized testing has led to more pressure on teachers and students. Learning has also changed in the last thirty years. Today, students in kindergarten are working on skills that were once taught on the first or second grade level. Classroom structure is another thing that has changed in the past thirty years. Children may work in groups or at their own pace. Students today are more likely to go to a larger school and be exposed to people of other races, cultures and social groups. More help is available for children who are struggling academically or socially. Guidance counselors, family resource directors and psychologists are available to help children and families. Parent involvement and support is less frequent than it was thirty years ago. Today, many children live in single parent homes or have two parents that work full time outside the home. This leads to less time for school activities. When a problem occurs at school, today's parents are more likely to blame the teachers than they were thirty years ago. Basic subjects such as math and reading are still taught, but different methods may be used. Today, hands on learning is emphasized in many schools. Another one of the changes is computer education and the use of computers to teach. Reflecting on what the school was thirty years ago and what it is now, the changes between the two are drastic.

games) Joe Millionaire was based on a materialistic lie. The lie being that Joe was a multi-

millionaire. The truth is, he is a construction worker that only earns about $0,000.00 annually.

The purpose of Joes journey was to week by week eliminate the Gold-digging women and by

the end of the series find the perfect wife that loved Joe for Joe and not for Joes fake

money. Somehow the American public is supposed to believe that these two people are in

love. It was clear to see that this show was based upon the belief that some women

marry for money.

Just like many other television reality shows, Joe Millionaire was presenting the fact

that Americans are infatuated with money and greed. The television ratings have proven

the fact that Americans love to watch it. The brilliant television producers know exactly

what will sell. They found the fault that many Americans have, and decided to display it on

national television. That fault being the pursuit of happiness is often confused with the greed

for money. Other reality shows displaying this fault would include Survivor, Big Brother, The Mole,

Road Rules, and most recently The Family, in which an Italian Family competes against

each other to win one million dollars and are judged secretly my the house staff. As the

American public watches they can only hope for the worst outcome. Being nothing recently

dicovered, this fault was captured by the American novelist F. Scott Fitzgerald in the twenties.

In the novel The Great Gatsby written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, which takes place during

the 10s, many characters mirror those found in these television reality shows. The difference

is that in The Great Gatsby the characters are already rich. The concentration of the novel is of

these Long Island inhabitants whose focus is on money and greed. The 10s was the high point

for aristocratic America. The author portrays this through the characters and events in the novel.

In the love triangle between Daisy, Tom and Gatsby there came a point were Daisy had to choose

one of these wealthy men. Her options were to go with Gatsby, who she truly loved and received

equal love in return. Or, option two, go back to Tom, who could give her money and a lifestyle of

wealth but with hardly any love or commitment. Being the shallow, greedy person she was, she

decides to stick with Tom.

Way back before this dilemma, when Gatsby was actually known as Jacob Gatz. This was

when Daisy first met Gatsby and he wasnt rich. Gatsby was your average Midwestern young man.

His strong love for Daisy affected him so much that he changed his lifestyle. When Daisy left him,

Gatsby instilled in himself a dream to be rich one day and win Daisy back. But why is it that he has

to be rich to win her back? Gatsby made a self-improvement schedule to keep him inline to achieve

his goal of being wealthy. He even lowered himself to become part of organized crime to make his money.

After eventually failing, the reader is left to think was it worth it?

What is important in life? Most people would say being happy and healthy is whats important.

Somehow, people also think that money is what you need to be happy. But if the process of making ones

money doesnt make them happy, is it worth it at all? It defeats the purpose, if your trying to be happy by

doing something that doesnt make you happy. Unfortunately, a lot of times the drive to be happy is

subconsciously substituted with money and greed.
