Racism is one of the main themes of Black Boy . Throughout the story we can see how black people lived and suffered , just for being different .

They were treated as animals and humillated by people . They didn't have rights and had to support the injustices of life at that period of time.

Since little , Richard knew but didn't understand that white people were different to black people , he thought that they were the same but still knew that white people were more powerful than black people , for example when he said in page ¨ And when a word circulated among the black people of the neighborhood that a black boy had been severy beaten by a white man , I felt that the white man had the right to beat the black boy. Richard refer to the black person as a boy , and to the white person as a man , by this difference we can see that he wasn't really concerned about the differences between whites and blacks , but he knew in a very innocence way that white men were more powerful than black men.

Do my essay on Racism in Black Boy CHEAP !

As time goes by Richard realizes that many of the hardships of his life , such as poverty , hunger and lack of education , were the results of racial discrimination .

Another example of racism is shown in chapter eight ,when a black man , who was a classmate of Richard's brother , was killed by whites for visiting a white prostitute . This event made Richard realized how afraid he was of the white terror that could assault him at any time , and so he had to be very careful in whatever he did so that he would not be killed by whites . However black people were always in danger from whites.

One of the main problems that Richard had was that he treated white men as his equals. In chapter nine Richard was beaten with a whiskey bottle by some white boys whom he forgets to called them " sir." This also happened in the same chapter when a white man offered him a ride into town but he beated Richard because he forgets to called him "sir" . This clearly show us that white men had the right to beated and killed black people if they wanted to . We can also see that Richard did not want to accept the superiority of white peole , and that he have not learn how to live as a black man in the South, he should hide his true feelings and act different in front of white people , and also he has to think before he speaks to whites.

Another example or racial discriminations related to humillation is shown in chapter twelve when a black worker called Shorty earned money by being a clown and by humillating himself , in order to make whites laugh ,and give him some coins . For example one day he asks a white man for a quarter and in return lets the man kick him in the pants . To Richard this event was disgusting , but other black workers cared more about bread than about dignity .

The last example of racism is related with education . In Chapter thirteen Richard is interested in reading a book from H.L Mencken , but black people wasn't allowed to borrow books from the public library and so he asked a catholic man , if he could borrow his card and he accepted .Not letting black people to read books from the public library was unfair , people should always have the right to learn , but obviously black men were consider as people with no intelligence , and also very few wanted to improve their situation , they were only interested in survival.

Karma (deeds) and results of Karma are the basis of our lives. Knowing that good karma will bring good results and vice versa, our lives can be guided towards fruition of Salvation termed as Moksha. Karmas are of various levels and will effect a soul for short or long time depending upon its gravity. A simple act will bring a simple and short term reward , whether it be good or bad. More serious karma can bring a longer lasting reward and yet still some karmas are so good or bad that they last for some lifetimes. The result or the fruit of a karma cannot be escaped. This is hard and fast. As for bad karma when one gets realized, begins to do good deeds and takes the path towards God then fortunately the punishment of any past bad deeds only Here we can see that Hinduism claims to have the truth in regard to its belief in karma and salvation. To Hinduism, Christianity and Islam do not have the truth and are in error regarding the doctrine of condemning people to hell. Hinduism has the truth. As pointed out in earlier chapters, this can be termed implicit intolerance. Also we see the similarity with Buddhism in that another person cannot be used as a propitiation for your sins or bad deeds [karma], this is something one has to do himself through his own self-reliance.

Hindus believe in the repetitious Transmigration of the Soul. This is the transfer of ones soul after death into another body. This produces a continuing cycle of birth, life, death and rebirth through their many lifetimes. It is called samsara. Karma is the accumulated sum of ones good and bad deeds. Karma determines how you will live your next life. Through pure acts, thoughts and devotion, one can be reborn at a higher level. Eventually, one can escape samsara and achieve enlightenment. Bad deeds can cause a person to be reborn as a lower level, or even as an animal. The unequal distribution of wealth, prestige, suffering are thus seen as natural consequences for ones previous acts, both in this life and in previous lives.

helps one reroute to God. That is the best part of it.

Anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder on an overwhelming dread of becoming fat. The result of this unfounded fear is self-starvation and major weight loss. In addition, the undernourishment may cause hormonal disturbances, anemia, heart problems, brittle bones and many other problems, some of which are life-threatening

Bulimia is an eating disorder that is psychological in origin and can have dire physical consequences. While anorexics starve themselves, bulimics binge on food and then purge by self-induced vomiting. Bulimics also frequently use diet pills, laxatives, and diuretics to reduce their weight. The purging may serve two purposes preventing weight gain and also temporarily relieving depression and other negative feelings These eating disorders are a major issue in society today due to society's stereotypical view of women and young teenage girls, in, but many cases' men are affected too.

Firstly, an eating disorder is an illness that affects several of the United States population because society has driven many people to be self-conscience about their appearance. For example, eight million people in the United States suffer from eating disorders. Furthermore, % of all young women suffer from anorexia and -4% suffer from bulimia

This proves that many women and teenage girls are affected because many are afraid of becoming fat and unacceptable to society's view on women in general. In addition, 1% of boys and young men suffer from eating disorders, and their cases are becoming more common. Also, it is a disorder that crosses racial and economical lines, those who succumb to compulsive starving or binge eating are males. This shows that today's society has also affected men's stereo-typical view of their appearance and weight. Thus, eating disorders not only affect women, they also affect men, in which we are seeing more cases of every day.

Help with essay on The begianing then the end

This illustrates that anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa can both have similar and obvious symptoms to help other people detect them and prevent the illness from becoming life threatening. In addition, other eating anorexia nervosa symptoms are fear of becoming fat, distorted body image, and hyper activity. Also, bulimia nervosa ‘s emotional symptoms are mood swings and makes excuses to go to the bathroom after meals This reveals that these eating disorders can affect a person not only physically, but emotionally too. For example, if a persons hands and feet are cold at a normal room temperature and if they have dry, sallow skin, this person could be experiencing the consequences of anorexia nervosa. Furthermore, if a person has tooth enamel erosion, gum infections, cavities and tooth discoloration caused by stomach acids from frequent vomiting, the person is experiencing the consequences of purging due to bulimia nervosa. This proves that anorexia and bulimia nervosa can both have different consequences and effect than weight loss. In addition, anorexia nervosa also has many medical effects such as hormonal disturbances, anemia, heart problems, and brittle bones which can be life-threatening . Also, bulimia nervosa has such medical effects as self-induced vomiting can result in irritation and tears in the lining of the throat, esophagus and stomach. This reveals that the medical effects and consequences can be sever and life-threatening if the eating disorder is not caught at an early stage. So, anorexia and bulimia nervosa can have several effect those which are physical and others that are medical consequences.

In conclusion, the most important thing that one can do for a person who is suffering from any kind of eating disorder is help them through it and help them seek medical attention. The medical attention that is required for this kind of treatment is normalization of eating patterns, enhancement of self-esteem, development of solid self-concept, and improvement of problem-solving and decision-making skills. Support from family members and friends is helpful for the victim's recovery.

Many of us had someone we looked up to, or admired. A hero in other words, that helped in guiding you to this point. We've all had heroes; many of us still have them. But have you ever considered what makes a hero, or what qualities one has to posses to be a hero/heroine.

Many of our hero's are famous, whether in sports, movies, or music. Then we have heroes such as family members or close friends. But what exactly is a hero and what are the main qualities of a hero. One dictionary describes a hero as a man/woman of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his/her brave deeds and noble qualities. There are many different definitions for a hero/heroine. We may not be able to express in word what exactly we think a hero is. There are many different things that make us select people as our hero or heroine. It may be the courageous deeds they do for people, the strange or hard jobs that they perform, or maybe it's their talents (such as actors, singers, and athletes). Whatever it may be, there is something special about the people we chose to be our hero.

We can say that most of our heroes/heroines are brave, determined, and audacious. Take for instance Batman. Many consider him to be a hero because he shows bravery when it comes down to protecting the citizens of Gotham City from the bad people there. He's determined to keep the city safe no matter what obstacles he are forced to face. Then, he's very audacious or bold when he does these heroic acts.. He never lets anything scare him or keep him from doing something he's determined to do. And he shows his caring attributes towards all in the city. And some look up to him and consider him a hero for things like that. Then we have parents that are considered hero's to some of us. What makes parents heroes? Many of us would say it's because they're devoted, hardworking, and loving. Many admire their parents for the things they've done or even the things that both you and your parents have been through together. Through it all they've remained devoted, hardworking, and caring. Our heroes must also have strength and creativity.

Our heroes/heroines bravery and courage are developed in spite of fear and human failings. This gives us hope and courage to face the challenges that lie ahead. We all have the potential to overcome great obstacles and achieve our dreams by following in the footsteps of our heroes.

The main purpose today was to determine what makes a hero/heroine and how we ourselves can be heroes and heroines. We've drawn the conclusion that you must have such qualities as bravery, determination, devotion, and audacious. Each of you sitting here today holds all of these qualities deep inside. My challenge to each of you today is to go out beyond these school grounds and use these qualities that you hold so dear and be someone's hero/heroine. All of you have the potential and you're showing it by being present here today. Many of you may already be someone's hero/heroine. Maybe a sibling, family member, or even someone in your neighborhood may admire you and consider you to be their hero/heroine. So can you see yourself as a hero/heroine? Because when I look out in the audience that's exactly what I see, a room full of the world's greatest hero ever.

They were meant to find solutions or answers to an existing problem. Religions were established around 800 B.C.-00 B.C., which was known as the Axial Age. I think human beings are blessed with philosophy, and relgion to live with. I believe we human beings see religion as some kind of philosophy. Dont you think religion is also a way of thinking about how we can live best? And philosophy is all about thinking. So we humans being posses this ability to think and believe, which is a blessing for us.

The first four civilizations to come up with their own religion and philosophy were China, India, Middle East, and Greece. They came up with different solutions to find the answers about everything. India and Middle East beliefs were based on religion, political and social, while China and Greece valued only political and social. China and Greece were identified as non-religious civilization, also known as Secularism. They obtain their answers by thinking. On the other hand, India and the Middle East find their solutions by God and what it says in the bible. I think religion is more influential than philosophy. Religion these days are growing and has been exposing themselves to the telivision, radio, and newspaper.

The creation of hinduism, buddhism, and jainism took place in India. In those religions, they served one or more gods, also called as polytheism. The people who served only one called were called monotheism. Those people originately came from the Middle eastern where judaism, christianity, and islam were born.

Confucianism was very popular around the year 500 B.C. A man named confucious started this great philisophy. When he died his students wrote books about him and his ideas. Confucious was a self educated man, who studied the society to find the answers for everything. The books that Confuciouss students have written for him was all about what their master said. Confucious teachings were about relationships in the family, the society, and the state. He thought humans were between heaven and earth. So if humans behavior becomes bad, then the relation between heaven and earth becomes bad. The relationships in the family were the resposibilites between husband and wife, father and son, mother and daughter, and older brother and youger brother. In the society, relationships were between the old and young, and the rich and poor. In the state, realtionships were between the rulers and subjects. Chinese people used history as a lesson. Educated people were civilized, and uneducated people were not. Confucious also taught his students about moral, gentlemen, and nobility.

In the twentieth century two key figures stand on top of the tower of tyrannical leaders Joseph Stalin and Adolf Hitler. Together these two leaders were responsible for more deaths and suffering than most can ever imagine. Their rise to power and their stability of power with their people could have been predicted though. In The Prince, Machiavelli outlined the type of behavior and leadership that is required to govern a country. Machiavelli's book outlines, among other concepts, the use of any and all means, war, and fear in order to rise to power and stay in power. Thus, The Prince should be regarded as a guide to tyranny.

"We are fifty or a hundred years behind the advanced countries. We must make good this distance in ten years. Either we do it, or we shall be crushed." (Joseph Stalin in his speech to industrial managers, February 11). Machiavelli tells us in effect that the end justifies the means. Joseph Stalin accomplished something just short of a miracle in Soviet Russia in the period preceding World War Two. With his 5-year plans for industrialization and modernization, he transformed the Soviet Union from a backwards agriculturalist country to the industrial powerhouse that was able to withstand the massive onslaughts of Nazi Germany. To accomplish this, though, Stalin ordered the collectivization of soviet farms. By 140, almost all peasant and private farms had been collectivized, and private ownership of property had been almost completely abolished. About five million of the wealthier peasants, also known as kulaks, were "deported." No one ever heard from them again. The rest of the peasants were herded into collective farms, stripped of their individual lives, and forced to work the land to pave the way for industrialization. Despite a massive famine in early thirties due to collectivization, Stalin was able to produce enough grain and workers to feed the new and growing industry, and was able to hold off the Germans in WWII. Thus, in the eyes of Machiavelli, in the end the means were justified.

Machiavelli describes the relationship between statesmanship and warcraft in The Prince. He describes that in order to have sound laws, the presence of a sound military is required. He also asserts that successful warfare is the foundation for a successful state, and that successful warfare isn't just sheer overwhelming force, but also diplomacy, strategy, innovation, etc. Adolf Hitler transformed Germany from a destructed wasteland back into one of the most powerful nations in the world. To rebuild his country, he rebuilt Germany's military. His fascist ruling techniques instituted strong laws alongside the newly redeveloped military in a country that was nearly in a state of anarchy after WWI. His military tactics were very successful, with the German "Blitzkrieg" conquering almost all of Europe in a very short period of time. In Machiavelli's eyes, Hitler's successful warcrafting abilities were able to create a strong state and a successful prince.

One of the most stressed of Machiavelli's concepts was that in order to rule effectively and stay in power a prince should be feared but not hated. Joseph Stalin spread fear across his nation. Stalin eliminated opposition, such as Trotsky and Kirov, and used them as excuses for purging millions of citizens into forced labor camps and their own deaths. Kirov's assassination, in particular, was used as an excuse for the Great Terror of the 0's, and the draconian and tyrannical laws instituted by Joseph Stalin during that time period. To help with the elimination of his opposition, the Secret Police, under Stalin's orders, arrested and executed millions of political dissenters. By using extreme fear, Stalin was able to stay in power until his death in 15. While Machiavelli may not have approved of murder on the scale of Joseph Stalin's, this is nevertheless a prime example of using fear to stay in power, and people were too afraid of Stalin to hate him.

Order Custom Machiavelli: Guide to Tyranny paper

So, if Stalin and Hitler were brought to power and stayed in power by the actions outlined in The Prince, then why did they fail in the end? The answer is simple. Stalin and Hitler failed because they strayed from Machiavelli's teachings. Hitler went too far and let personal grievances take control of his power. He became greedy in his warcrafting, and slaughtered millions of Jews because of a personal hatred for them. Stalin simply became hated. His use of fear was taken too far, and by the end, he was more hated than feared. This being said, these two individuals are perfect examples of why Machiavelli's The Prince is a guidebook to tyranny. Had they stayed true to his concepts, there is no telling what the world might be like today. If there is a Hell, along with Hitler and Stalin, Machiavelli is most likely in it.

Order your the ugly american paper at affordable prices with cheap essay writing service! "The simple fact is, Mr. Ambassador, that average Americans, in their natural state… are the best ambassadors a country can have. But something happens to most Americans when they go abroad… feel that they must live up to their commissaries and big cars and cocktail parties." This quotation taken from a conversation between Minister of Defense, Magsaysay and MacWhite basically shows the main point the authors of The Ugly American, William J. Lederer and Eugene Burdick were trying to get across. This main point being that Americans have the potential to be some of the best ambassadors in the world. However, when these same Americans are sent abroad, a transformation occurs in which they believe they are expected to live up to the standard of American luxury, such as numerous servants, large houses, and extravagant houses, negating any chance of completing their duties. The Ugly American goes on to further attack the indolence of the majority of American ambassadors through countless fictional accounts based on true events.

Louis Sears, which the reader meets at the beginning of the novel, is a perfect example of the ignorance of many American Ambassadors. An example of this is his inability to read any of the Sarkhanese printed in a cartoon printed in the Eastern Star, a Red paper. Considering he was appointed as the American Ambassador of Sarkhen, not understanding the language would pose a rather large problem. Another problem revolves around what convinced him into taking the job of Sarkhan's Ambassador. It wasn't because he desired to make a difference or to help drive away the communists that were slowly taking over Sarkhan. The position of Sarkhan's American Ambassador was simply a temporary thing he could take until a federal judgeship opened up in two years. Therefore, it only stood to reason that Mr. Sears would have no real interest in helping out the Sarkhanese people.

Further fallacy in the way America handles its oversea affairs can be found in chapter 6, Employment Opportunities Abroad. One only has to look at how life is portrayed in overseas positions to see the why overseas affairs are handled so badly. During a conference for employment opportunities abroad, a guest speaker, Joseph Bing is bought in to speak about overseas affairs. He starts off his speech by briefly touching upon the duties of working overseas and then quickly switches over to the matter of social affairs, which he holds with much higher importance. He speaks in-depth about how housing is free, food and liquor is inexpensive, and how easy it is to obtain servants. All this that Joseph Bing talks about shows how oversea officials place their own personal interests before their duties.

In conclusion, though Americans have the ability to be some of the world's best ambassadors because of their non-suspicious attitudes, eagerness to share skills, and generosity, these attributes are often clouded by poor selection on the part of the government. Instead of choosing people such as Colonel Killandale, Father Finian, John Colvin, or John Atkins; people who genuinely want to help better the lives of people in less developed countries, the government, sadly, too often chose representatives like Louis Sears, George Swift, and Joseph Bing; people who don't understand the culture and language of the country they are appointed to and only care about their own personal interests.
